Maddie took a deep breath, loosened her fists and let out a long breath. Maddie tried so hard to throw it away that she snatched a drink from a waitress's tray and splashed it straight in Joshua's face.
Maddie already had so many problems, she didn't want to add another one and make Joshua's head grow bigger and bully her more. "You're going to leave immediately after I answer you?" Maddie asked, demanding certainty and something to her advantage in responding to Joshua's suspicious questions.
"I'll go right away," Joshua replied confidently.
Maddie took a few deep breaths to calm herself before telling him, "I don't know."
The unexpected answer made Joshua frown, he demanded an explanation, "What do you mean you don't know? There's no way you don't know!"
"I would be very happy if I could answer your question and make you leave my face this second but I do not know." Before Joshua could speak, Maddie added, "I've answered your question, so go!"
