Bram was speechless, and his heart was disappointed to know such a sad thing about Castelia. If Maddie had said anything else, either Castelia was a bad guy or a murderer. Bram would accept everything but have a relationship with a married man? Bram no longer knew what kind of things he should think about.
After hearing all of Joshua's mistreatment of Castelia, Bram was even more at a loss for words. Bram wanted to doubt everything he heard but on the other hand, couldn't because Maddie didn't lie.
Of course, Bram should have known that Maddie had reasons to hate Joshua so much, she had reasons that were completely intolerable. Bram understood Maddie's anger and her desire to separate Castelia from Joshua.
