Maddie tried to calm down, firmly saying, "I'm not lying!" She said whatever she could to escape or at least gain sympathy. "I like you. I went to your house to meet you."
Maddie's lie made Bram shake his head, unsure how to respond or tell her that he didn't believe her! Obviously, what happened wasn't what Maddie said, she was trying too hard to change reality.
"Please don't take me to your boss," Maddie pleaded as she felt abandoned. He put his hands in front of his chest and put on puppy eyes to win Bram's heart.
Bram glanced at her for a moment and focused on the road again. Maddie explained, "I swear to God I didn't try to steal your important file that day. I entered the wrong house, that's why I ran away when I realized it."
"So you're a thief?" asked Bram.
"I'm not a thief," Maddie denied when it was obvious that was what she said.
