Moments earlier, Maddie had stopped walking because she had forgotten how to breathe and to keep her eyes from widening perfectly. If the man not far ahead of her hadn't mentioned someone's name or just noticed her, he certainly wouldn't have missed Maddie.
"Castelia!" called the man, instantly making Maddie lower her eyes to avoid face to face. She slipped out and hid behind a wall near the cafeteria. Maddie was breathing fast, still unable to calm her eyes that hadn't stopped glaring.
Maddie was shocked, not thinking, "No, don't tell me he's Bram!" Maddie's hopes were dashed when she heard Castelia say the name of the man now standing in front of her. "Bram Alverin," Maddie mumbled, now knowing why the name sounded familiar when Castelia said it, it was because they had met before.
