VALENTINA's [POV]
"Have you ever been in love?" The words come out so softly I don't think he hears me. I don't know why I'm asking him, and as soon as the words are out of my mouth, I know I shouldn't have.
"Yes."
Who knew one word could hurt so much? I can't help but wonder what the woman he loved was like or how she could've ever left him. I've never even had him, and I can't seem to let him go.
"I'd never leave you if you loved me. I'd do everything in my power to keep you. You might think I'm crazy, but she's the crazy one. Anyone who would give you up is insane," I say, leaning up so I can see his face. His blue eyes seem to darken at my words.
"Is that so? Do you plan on letting me go?"
"You won't give me a choice! Soon your security will come in and take me away from you, but I won't let that happen until I'm finished. I'll have to leave before then, but hopefully I'll have a piece of you I can take with me."
