We went back to the stairs and took the path going straight this time, my [Spotlight] still doing its best to push back the absolute darkness of the cave.
Once again, we were wary of traps and Kaelin was advancing slowly through the tunnel, taking slow careful steps and always ready to leap back at the slightest sign of a trap activating.
We only walked for about two or three minutes before we came face to face with a set of stairs leading downwards.
All of us just stared at it for a good long minute.
"There… Weren't any traps, were there?" Riklan asked.
Kaelin shook his head slowly, "Nope…"
"This could have been less than a minute's walk from the last stairway if we weren't so cautious… Right?"
"Yep…"
