In Version 1, despite the fact that in Planet Darvis, the Elementalist Academy and Summoner Academy had more prestige than the Pugilist Academy, not a lot of players were attracted to the former 2 main classes.
The reasoning for most of the players was simple.
"Pugilists are much cooler!"
Elementalists were flashy, being able to deal different types of AOE damage from a distance. It was also cool being able to play a Summoner where you could sit at the rear while conveniently sending and commanding beasts into battle.
Despite the ingenuity of both main classes and the unique experience that followed it, it still could not trump the appeal of the Pugilist class to the players.
One of the appeals of VR games was the fact that players could almost feel everything like it was real. This made melee battles much more real and exciting, and the Pugilist class was the one who embodied melee combat the best.
