Chapter 1 - 7 Days Of Us

"Come serve the customer at the front, Kumi!"

My name is Kumi Caringal, and I am 27 years old. I work at a bakery, which was my childhood dream. There's just something so nice about smelling freshly baked cookies and vanilla frosting. Almost like i was in a wonderland. I took a deep whiff of the kitchen scent and hurried along to the customer at the front desk. Putting on a professional smile I said, "Hello, how may I help you sir?"

I felt like I had seen him before. Or maybe he just looked so beautiful that I thought I had seen him before. He had black hair, and was dressed super formally. (for some reason.) He had a white collared shirt on with a white suit on top of it. White suit pants too; with creases as sharp as a knife. Perhaps he was going on a date? I snapped out of my thoughts and asked what he would like to order.

Maybe I had done something to upset him however, because he instantly broke in tears. Literally, I felt so guilty even though I was sure I hadn't done anything wrong. "Sir, are you okay?" I asked, rapidly running to the other side of the desk to get napkins. Gently, I handed it to him and stared at him as he wiped away his tears.

"Ah, its nothing."

Nothing?!? He wasn't fooling anyone. "Well, maybe this would cheer you up a little." I gave him a free cupcake, vanilla icing with a strawberry on top.

He smiled bittersweetly at me, showing his dimples. I figured that he must feel slightly better and asked him what he would like to order. He asked for a cappuccino, a classic. The mood felt a lot brighter than before, and I asked him what name I should write down on the cup.

"Just put Aras. That's my name."

"Alright!" Just wait for a few minutes and your coffee will be ready sir."

I pulled along an espresso machine, pouring water into the boiler. After that, I grabbed a bag of ground coffee and put two tablespoons of it into the portafilter. I scurried around the kitchen, looking for a tamper. Ah, there it is! On the table. I grabbed it, and pressed the coffee down. After three times of pressing it down the coffee grounds were packed together well. I completed the rest of the steps carefully, and poured it into the bakery's own special cup. Placed the lid, wrote down Aras, and called for him at the front desk.

He came up to me, smiled, grabbed the coffee, and left. Such a handsome man must be going on a date, especially with those nice clothes. Aras looked slightly older than me; maybe 4 years older? Not to be insulting, but at that age and with those looks he shouldn't be single, right? Maybe all the girls had left him because of his personality. Y'know what they say, looks don't matter. Only the insides.

After washing the dishes, I closed down the shop. The sparkling stars in the nighttime sky looked so pure and beautiful. It made me grin, for I always liked the night. Even when I was a child, I would sneak out on the balcony when it was late at night just to stargaze. It calms me down when I have a rough night. Enough of reminiscing though, for it was time for me to close down the shop. I flipped over the board 'open' to 'closed,' and shut off all of the lights. The bakery turned black instantly, and now, the nighttime sky reflected off the windows even more. I packed my bags and left. Today was a steady day, not too many customers but not too little to make me bored. Plus, my day off is tomorrow. Does that mean I should drink alcohol till I pass out? Hell yeah.
