The day that I've been waiting all week finally came around and I'm extremely exhilarated more than ever. I'm fully charged and galvanized and just by thinking about the thought that I'm going to see Sunset Flava perform live for the first time in my whole life is already killing me from the inside out. They have become a part of my daily life, their music brings so much joy and energy to my heart every single time that I play it on my phone. This is what I've been dreaming for ever since I discovered their existence and now I'm about to attend my first ever live concert. I couldn't ask for more.
The whole week went by at such a tardy pace much to my desperation and impatience. Every day that I wake up, I look at the calendar with a dose of irritation and excitement and I mark each day with an ex just to remind myself that the day is moving. I survived the whole week though and now I'm pretty much ready to scream and jump and meet other people who loves Sunset Flava. My birthday's already over a few months ago but this feels like a very late birthday present or maybe even an advance birthday present for next year. Either way, I'm thankful that Janea bought this ticket for me. She's the best person that I have right now and I'm going to cherish this gesture of kindness that came from her.
I couldn't sleep last night because I've been thinking about Draik and Sunset Flava. They've been running around my mind, jumping at every corner, echoing from left to right and I had to force myself to count a hundred imaginary sheep just to force myself to sleep. When I woke up this morning, I am feeling much rather sleepy but the energy that I have preserved from the past few days that I've been waiting came to the rescue just in time that I needed it. I just had a cup of coffee and some peanut butter and jelly. Thankfully I have no classes today and it's my day off at work so apparently, things are working pretty smoothly for me. The stars seemed to have aligned to give me this moment.
I came across a few stumbles when I was trying to pick an outfit for the concert and it was actually hard to pick something nice and something on-brand to wear. I know myself and I'm not the kind of girl who always struggle every single day just to pick a decent outfit so that I could look pretty and sexy and desirable. I don't have this hunger to pair a pretty top to a skinny pants or a flashy dress to an uncomfortable shoes or even shiny accessories to a weird hat. That's not me. I don't necessarily have this problem on my daily life purely because I'm not a fashionista or a model or whatever you may want to call it. I'm most certainly the type of girl who just wears simple, casual and comfy clothes because I know I'm not trying to please other people other than Sunset Flava. Yes, that's I'm right. I am dressing for Sunset Flava. The thought of is horrifyingly exciting. I'm going to admit the lingering fact that this is a struggle and taking more of my time.
I had brought out every single merchandise that I bought at every other cheap website that sells every other illegal stuff. T-shirt, sweatshirts, caps, necklace even plushies. They're all fake for obvious reasons but still, at least I should wear something that's printed with the band's faces or something like that. I don't want to embarrass myself that I'm claiming all the rights as the band's biggest fan only for me to go to the concert wearing a plain t-shirt. That's disrespectful.
"Is this fine? Do I look good?" Returning for the ninth time, I stood right in front of this poster that had every member on it. I was asking all of them if they like my simple outfit and I obviously got no response. It's an oversized t-shirt printed with all of their faces from their second EP. I loved this shirt because it's comfy and I'm thinking it might get hotter and hotter once I'm inside the stadium. I paired it with a simple pair of ripped jeans and a Chuck Taylor All Star Classic Converse shoes.
"Looks like someone's ready for a concert!!!!!" Janea barged in uninvited and I was shocked for a little bit.
"Jesus Christ, Janea. You startled me." I cried out and turned around to face her. "Ah, that would be...MEEEEE!" Pointing my finger at myself, I squealed out of this growing excitement.
"Are you kidding me?"
"What?"
"You are really going to wear that ugly oversized and ill-fitting outfit to your favorite band's concert?" Janea glowered at me and it's as if my outfit is that bad that her tone was simply disgusted.
I looked at myself and I don't see what she was talking about. Ill-fitting isn't even a word in my vocabulary. I looked at her next and I was quick to notice that she was wearing a black-miniskirt with a ripped fishnet and a pair of black boots. She was also wearing a dark make-up with a dark lipstick and a really harsh eyeliner. To top it off, she was wearing a Sunset Flava t-shirt that she tied it right in the middle and her belly-button was hanging out in the open so that everyone could see how flat her stomach is.
"Why are you wearing that shirt?" I asked out of pure curiosity. I know she doesn't like Sunset Flava at all but she's wearing their t-shirt and it is puzzling to look at her wearing something that doesn't even like. This is giving me a lot of questions and I don't even want to burned out quite this early.
"Why are you wearing that shirt?" She bounced the question back mimicking my tone.
"Uhm, because I'm going to their concert."
"Girl, same. I'm also going to their concert."
"What?" I was gagged when I heard her reply. This is even making things a lot more puzzling. "You're kidding, right?"
"I'm serious."
"But we only have one ticket."
"No, we don't." Janea shook her head and showed me a ticket of her own.
"You bought two tickets?"
"Not only two tickets, I also bought your own t-shirt."
"Shut up, Janea. Shut up." I just want to slap her and hug her at the very same time
"Follow me." Janea ordered.
I was quick to follow Janea towards her room and she immediately showed me the same shirt that she bought. Things are happening faster than I thought.
"We are going to be twinzies for tonight's concert." Janea cried out as she handed me the t-shirt which I gladly accepted.
"Is this original?" I asked taking a look at the t-shirt. My first thought was to take a look at the tag and it is original. "It is original."
"Yes, that's from the band's website. It's authentic."
"No freakin' way. This t-shirt costs $899 and the ticket is $2500. That's almost 10k, sis. What in the actual? This is way too much Janea. I can't…."
"It's okay, sis. I didn't pay for all of that anyway. My parents may be rich but they canceled all of my credit card."
"So, who paid for all of these?"
"That's none of your business, Andie. Now come on and let's get you fixed so you would look at least decent. Look at you, you look like you are going to attend some kind of a support group meeting. Na-ah. You need to look pretty much like a fan girl."
"Huh?"
"Apparently, I have two of these mini-skirts too and I'm sure we have the same waist line." Janea followed up and tossed the mini-skirt my way.
"Girl, there's no way I'm wearing this." I shook my head in disapproval. This isn't my style and it's showing way more skin than what I want to allow myself to. "This is too much skin. I don't think I can….."
"Take off those ripped jeans and wear that mini-skirt or else I'm going to rip your ticket to shreds. Trust me on this one, Andie. This is going to be a night you won't be able to forget for the rest of your fan girl life. And if you're worried about showing some skin, I got some leggings for you."
I ended up saying yes to Janea and to everything that she made me wear. She always has some reason to my own reason and it's coming pretty hard to say no to her. She's adamant and I know she's doing all of these for me but I'm being forced out of my comfort zone. I wore the leggings, the mini-skirt and the t-shirt that she made me wear. Janea then put on some make up on my face and I feel like I'm going somewhere grand.
"You see you look pretty good now." Janea stood behind me as I stare at myself in front of the mirror. We are wearing the same outfit but Janea still looked sexier and better. She wanted me to tie my shirt in the middle too but I said no and I just tucked it in. I don't want my belly-button to be hanging out for the rest of the Flavaphiles to gawk at.
"But why are we wearing black lipsticks when we aren't going to punk rock band's concert?" I asked because I kind of liked this black lipstick.
"I thought Sunset Flava is a punk rock band?"
"No, girl. They're just a pop boyband."
"Ooooopsiee. I might have got the memo a bit wrong here but anyway we looked good. We looked a bit gothic but that's the mood for this event."
"Yeah, I agree. We both looked good." I gawked at myself and smiled. I'm not agreeing to this a while ago but now, I kind of like it. Janea really knows how to make me feel good even though I'm very much adamant at saying no.
"Oh, one last thing."
"What is it?"
"Of course we aren't going to that concert without having have these." Janea went on to get something from this paper bag.
"What? You also bought glow sticks?"
"Yes and we will be waving this in the air as we sing Emily Under the Sunset." Janea waved the glow sticks in the air to portray what she was envisioning.
"You know that song?" I was astonished to learn that she knows the song Emily Under the Sunset.
"Yeah, of course. It's the only song of the band that I like. Don't judge me but I've tried listening to their songs too."
"But that's a sad break-up song."
"So what's your point, miss thing? I'm not allowed to like sad break-up songs too?"
"No, bu…."
"Girl, come on let's just hit the road or we will be late!"
