In front of the cave, they stood. There was cackling, groans, growls, and cries from inside, but there were no monsters watching guard on the outside. It was as if they didn't care. It was as if those things were confident in killing anything that tries to enter.
Rorgue felt a sickening chill down to his bone. "Are we going in there?" he gulped.
A slow growl came from inside. "Even if the king of demons is inside, we are going," Maurice said.
When they stepped inside the mouth of the cave, a rumble came from the ground and flowed through their bodies. Maurice walked with his body hunched, while he dragged his wooden leg. Rorgue was scared, for it would be the first time for him to swing a sword; he came to help with Maurice's revenge, but he now realized how stupid of an idea it was.
A wind came right to their faces that smelled like a dozen rotting carcasses. Maurice's eyes adjusted to the light, and he now knew why there was no one guarding the entrance.
