Deifilia didn't know what was happening. She only saw the glimmers of the stone and Sophia being lifted by the roots. Bells chimed around the hall and roots placed Sophia back to the ground.
The bars of the cage flung open and the gem floated down and rested, dyed in violet.
Deifilia didn't look at the rock, her eyes were fixed on Sophia. Her body was not moving. "Hey," she ran to her. She sat on her knees, "hey!" she shook her, each one stronger than the last.
Blood drained from her face. "What should I do?' she panicked. "They can't come inside."
She pulled on her hands. "It's warm," she felt an air of relief. She had seen her father check a man If he was alive by listening to his heart. She did the same and heard the slow drumming of her heart.
Deifilia looked at her closely. Her chest moved ever so slightly. She touched her nostrils and felt warm air passing out. "She is just asleep," she whispered.
