Osmond went to his door and heard scratches coming from the other side. He opened it and Delta came running, licking his legs, wagging her tail and running around him. The tiny pup whose bones bulged out its skin was no more in its place stood a ball of energy and joy.
Osmond walked inside and Delta followed him, wagging her tail. He took a piece of salted jerky and waved it to her. Her brown eyes focused and her hair stood still. Osmond threw to the air and her body flew, her teeth snapped and she sat down chewing on the flesh.
He went to his bed, sat down and Delta jumped onto his lap. She was getting stronger, bigger and smarter with each passing day. "She will be a great hunting dog soon," Riley had told him. In a place where everyone was a stranger to him, Osmond loved her company.
"I must tell this news to Tanya," Riley thought as he walked to the stables.
