The serious look on Josiah’s face told Mila he was being honest. Fleetingly she cried in her heart to the Goddess to swap Josiah out for Rowan. ‘I will love and cherish him for the rest of my life. Please, Goddess, change your mind.’
Seeing the conflicted look on Mila’s face, Josiah sighed. “Too soon?”
Mila shook her head. “No! I am just really honored that while I don’t have my mate, I’ve been blessed with the next best thing.”
She ran her hand through her hair and looked down in embarrassment. “If anything, it makes me feel like a spoiled brat. Here you are running the pack and keeping things on point and I’m moaning about Sloane as if she’s the reason the world is ending. And then on top of your duties, you help me find work that I love with a partner who is amazing to work with!”
Mila dropped her face into her hands. “I actually feel unworthy.”
Shocked, Josiah didn’t know what to say. He scratched the back of his head and cleared his throat. “Um, thank you.”
