Chapter 17 - Ghost In The Park

ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ MAI AND OTHERS ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ

"Ma-Masako...?" Mai stuttered, hesitantly walking towards Masako's hunched body beside Osamu, who continued to assist her making sure that Masako was not threatened to faint once more.

"The spirit's possessed her body," Akemi says, lifting a hand to wave Bou-san and Kikyo forward.

"Good timing. Are you the one who's been pouring water over people here?" Naru spoke out, relaying what Akemi has said to him as they all focused on Masako.

The crew waited with baited silence, waiting for Masako's response and their wait wasn't long as Masako started snickering to herself. The sounds of her laughs made Mai frown in worry.

"Ho ho Ho ho~~" Masako laughed, lifting her hunched body to reveal her pale complexion, more pale than she usually was. "~~yes~~ I hoped that they would catch a cold, get bronchitis and suffer from it~!" Masako laughed much haughtier.

"Why would you wish that?" Naru asked, stepping forward. Seeing his attempt, Akemi was just about to hold him back but somehow the air around the woman did not scream danger. Akemi could not explain it but she felt that they were in no danger at all.

It was even more proven when the spirit on Masako's body brightened and clasped Naru's hand.

'What the—?!' Mai irked, feeling annoyed at the sight of Masako clinging unto Naru's indifference persona. However, on the midst of Mai's annoyance, Akemi gave a sly smile trying to control the laughs she wanted to give by covering her mouth with the back of her hand.

'N-naru...pfft!' Akemi clenched her fists tighter, watching the spirit gush over Naru.

"Ahh~! What a handsome boy~~ too bad you're too young for me." Masako sweetly chimed, however her admiring persona disappeared in a snap as she remembered Naru's question. Akemi pouted slightly at that, the fun no longer there. "They make me sick! they make me even sicker when they flirt with each other~~ especially when I'm suffering from so much pain~~"

"Would you mind telling us why you're in so much pain?" Osamu this time leaned in, making the Spirit brighten once more at the sight of the doctor.

"Another bishounen~~! I should have died sooner if it meant seeing such handsome men~~!" Masako frowned, placing a hand on her cheek. "If you want me to tell you, I'll tell you.... You see, My boyfriend broke up with me so I killed myself, how miserable and silly I am. Go ahead laugh at me~~!"

"She's... a very interesting lady," Akemi sweat dropped, smiling politely at the sight of Masako's possessed actions with a slight giggle after finally getting over the sight of her gushing actions.

"It's even funnier because she's in Masako's body, neh?" Mai nudged her sempai, snickering at the sight. Bou-san following along.

The crew rarely saw Masako react too weirdly at the SPR, so their reaction came out unknowingly however, the Spirit didn't know that and took it the wrong way— turning her head so fast that Osamu worried it might hurt the Psychic's neck.

"Did you just laugh at me?" Masako glared, her words made Akemi and Bou-san sweat dropped with wry smiles.

"Huh? you're the one that told us to!" Mai barked, saying the words Akemi and Bou-san reminded to only say in mind.

The spirit ignored Mai, letting out a sob as she turned away from them which received another irked from the high schooler. 'Why you—?!'

"~~Well, then I'll tell you my tragic love story, listen to me carefully~~"

"It was a fate encounter~~ We met for the first time in this park, handing me green onions that I accidentally dropped~~ ever since then, we would meet each other here~~"

"How cheesy..." Mai bitterly spat, crossing her arms and stepped near her sempai, who remained quiet but the hesitant smile on her lips stated her opinion of the Spirit's story quite clearly.

"Is this cheesy type story gonna be the next trend?"

"We got along so well that people around us were jealous~~"

"~~But then I happen to bump into him when he was dating an another woman!"

Akemi and Kikyo gasps as Mai's eyes widened in disbelief. "No way!"

Seeing the girls, Bo-san sweat dropped. 'Oi oi... Weren't you guys just commenting on how cheesy the story was?'

"Yes way!" Masako clenches and grumbles. "How dare he~~ He was cheating on me!"

"And when was that time?" Akemi asked, a glint on her eyes as she noted how the air around the PSirit turned dark at the thought of her ex-boyfriend.

"That was six months ago~~" Masako sobs. "They were meeting at this park! This was our special place~~!"

"So why do you pour water on people?"

'Naru's getting tired of hearing her story...' Akemi thought to herself as Naru silently sat back on the bench where he and Masako sat.

"I was so upset that I confronted him~~ but then he told he I was disgusting and poured water on my head while the girl cheered him on..."

"Wha— No!"

"What an idiot that sucks!"

"I know~~ I know~~"

"He doesn't deserve to live..." Akemi said with a cold look. Bou-san and Osamu shivered at the woman's killing intent, and admittedly shuffled a few steps back while Naru remained passive and let out a sigh at the girl's reaction, knowing that there are women in his life that would react the same way.

Frankly, Osamu knew that this type of reaction won't be the last, seeing as he was about to marry a woman that grew up in the same household as Akemi. He was still trying to process that event.

Masako continued sobbing, already clasping Akemi's hand. "I was in such shock I went into a deep depression. I decided that I should leave this place surrounded by my beautiful memories~~ in our special place where we first met..."

"So... you committed suicide?" Akemi queried.

"...I tried..." Masako sheepishly added, avoiding their gazes out of embarrassment. "But each time I failed so I decided to give up and just go home~~"

The Spirit then explained her suicidal attempts, with each words she spat out the crew would let out weak responses at the fortune the spirit possessed, for sure they had a mental breakdown when it all led to a stray cat as the cause of her death.

'Six months ago... that matches..' Naru and Akemi glanced at each other, nodding.

"I know it's a bad thing for me to say but why don't you just show up in front of the guy as a ghost?" Bou-san asked but the Spiri shook her head.

"I've already tried standing next to his bed at night or standing on his shoulders but none of that worked at all~~" Masako cries, "He is too insensitive to notice~~ I really needed to release my stress, so I decided I'd have the people in the park go through the same thing I went through instead~~ Ho ho Ho ho~~"

Mai frowned at what she heard the spirit say, a fire in her eyes ignited as she knelt down to match Masako's height which sat down the ground as she sobbed. "That's not good! look even if you're upset because of a grudge against an ex-boyfriend and take your anger out on others then... wouldn't you be the one they'd end up hating?" Akemi smiled at Mai's words, letting the girl speak her heart out as Mai would be the one meant for the spirit to help set free.

"That's unreasonable. That's unfair to you and it doesn't make sense!" Mai continued unaware how even Bou-san smiled, even Kikyo gave a light twitch of her lips. "I really don't know what the best solution is for this... this may not sound convincing enough for you but hating and being hated by others..."

'The summer incident... the mother who lost her child also hated everything and was suffering from so much pain...' Mai didn't want the spirit to feel that kind of torment. No kind of human nor spirit deserve such pain.

"You too must realize that this is not making you happy." Naru said, his eyes glancing at Akemi's figure a moment to quick that no one noticed.

Bou-san kneels in front of Masako, flicking her forehead like a brother would. "That's right, If you don't stop you may never be able to rest in peace and you'd be much more happier if you could."

Seeing their encouragement, Masako couldn't help but feel light, 'Where were these kinds of people when she needed them?'

"What are you guys... Psychic otakus~~?"

"Ahh...well, yeah... I guess...?" Bou-san sweat dropped, hesitating to answer the spirit.

"Well you guys may be right~~" Masako clasped her hands to a prayer. "I feel that your advice has awakened me to the truth~~"

The spirit in Masako's body smiles, genuinely happy and calm for once as these past six months she couldn't admit but she was feeling stuffy being alone in the park. "Thank you~~Thank you for listening to me... I feel a lot better..."

Akemi watched as the spirit left Masako's body, a bright light shining above her as she left while Mai and the others remained watching on Masako's body unaware of what was happening on the other side.

"May you get the justice you deserve..." Akemi softly smiles, waving back to the Spirit as she looked back and waved over at them.

Masako snaps out of her daze, just in time. "What was I....?"

"Pfft~!"
