He was waiting outside the gate when my shift ended. As usual, he looked like a heaven-sent angel to turn all the ugliness of my life around into an endless summer sort of romance. I tended to believe it back then. Until 12:00 of this day.
"you got this?" – Jen said gently as we neared the gate. Her hand was clutched on my arm, as if guiding me slowly so I won't break down to the ground. I felt feeble, to be honest.
"I have to."
"okay. you can call me anytime if you want to."
I nodded and we separated at the gate. Jennifer didn't even acknowledge Ivor's presence when he said Hello to her. he looked disappointed and then his gaze focused on me.
"let's go?"
I didn't say a word. How can things shift in such a minimal amount of time? it's saddening, but what else can I do? It's here… and it wasn't my fault at all.
