[Alex's Point of View]
At first there was nothing. No light, no gravity, nothing.
Then suddenly everything was back a tenfold; the light was blinding and the pressure was crushing. But he felt alive more than anything.
He looked around and tried to make sense of what he was seeing.
Around him he saw a bright, multi-colored web of flashing trails. Each trail connected a fleck of light to another one. It strangely struck him both as beautiful and alien at the same time, yet it was too bright altogether.
Were those flecks of lights perhaps the life-force of living beings? He couldn't pinpoint why he'd thought that, but he felt the thought echo in his heart as the truth, which must mean that it was true.
His attention was drawn by a peculiarly bright speck of light, which appeared to be connected to himself.
He curiously reached out towards it and was surprised to feel the soft touch of a human cheek underneath his fingers.
He'd forgotten that he had fingers.
The feeling was sobering and instantly, the bright lights dimmed and ghosts appeared around the flecks of life-force. He found himself staring into familiar, deep blue eyes, and those eyes were staring right back at him. He recognized his soulmate, yet because of his current state of power-overload, he couldn't remember the name she was using for this shell.
It took him a few heartbeats to realize that she might have been saying something to him. But he couldn't hear anything at all. The sound of the erratic beating of his heart was echoing too loudly in his ears. It made him remember that he was running out of time.
He smiled apologetically at his soulmate's ghost and placed a feather-light kiss on her lips.
Immediately, the ghosts faded from view again.
"Don't worry," he said and hoped he sounded reassuring. "I know how to set things right."
Then he turned his head to locate the biggest conjunction of energy flow and walked straight towards it.
