Chapter 19 - You're just as crazy as I am

"Your precious one may go ballistic if you do not intervene." Rumi rolled her eyes and leaned back on the backrest.

Maiyu narrowed her eyes and her mood darkened at the information, "what do you mean by that?"

Rumi looked at her black nails and dramatically blew on them, "oh, my bad, headmistress. I assume that's what you think of him."

Maiyu could sense a challenge in her words and be almost provoked, but not until she took a deep breath and reverted to her usual happy-go-lucky vibe.

"I don't understand what you're talking about, Rumi." She made an emphasis as she stared at the name card which shook slightly.

Rumi looked down at her tag and could tell it was Maiyu's doing. Not much had been spoken about Maiyu's ability, nor did she use it very often.

With little information about her clan, she had done a good job in masking her true ability as the headmistress, or how she had gotten her position.

The headmistress had been known to make use of the snapping of fingers which couldn't allow them to deduce the triggering aspect of her ability and that of those bestowed to her as the headmistress by sorcerer supreme, but with what had happened with her name tag and while touching Tenji, Rumi had gotten the answer she needed.

'Telekinesis and telepathy.' She made a guess but needed to focus on the main reason for her arrival.

"Your precious one is unstable." Rumi teased with a crooked smile.

'You two hide your abilities for a secret, a secret I so desperately want to find out, hence I'd let you two interact without my intervention.' Rumi thought as she waited for Maiyu to give a reply.

"I don't know why you would be referring to anyone as a precious one nor am I meant to understand with that face of yours." Maiyu calmly replied.

'This is why I rarely let in students.'

"You need to come with me, headmistress." Rumi appealed and got to her feet, sensing something might go wrong if she played around.

Maiyu sensed something wrong with Tenji's aura and her eyes doubled in size as she glared at Rumi.

"Where is Tenji?!" She snarled and her eyes glowed in suppressed fury until she knew what was going on, she tried to quell her anger.

Rumi grimaced at the demeaning aura seething off her headmistress, this was the first time she would see her angry and it was for none other than the situation of Tenji.

'Something is going on between these two.'

Raising her hands in surrender, she dreaded what could be done to her by a headmistress with two combinations of unpredictable abilities.

"He's in his home–"

"What is he doing in his home while school is still in session?! I had thought he took you two for training in an empty class..." Maiyu paused as realization dawned on her.

"Where is Asahi?!" She narrowed her eyes, if Rumi was here it was only natural Asahi was somewhere close but such wasn't the case.

Before Rumi could speak on what was going on, Maiyu cut in. "He's with Tenji."

Pinching the bridge of her nose, she simply shook her head and got to her feet.

Standing in front of Rumi with a height of 175cm in contrast to Rumi's 169cm, she looked down at her student.

Rumi constantly tried to convince herself that the difference in their heights is merely the black ankle strap heel the headmistress wears.

"I am aware you teleported here, that's how you managed to be in front of my door protected by my barrier or you would have popped up in front of my desk." Maiyu exposed.

Rumi had a twisted smirk at her words, 'you're just about crazy as I am, if not more but just keeping them at bay.'

"I apologize for breaking in on your space, headmistress." She gave a slight bow to maintain peace while they got back to meet Tenji and Asahi.

"Could you take us back to his home?" Maiyu coughed, a bit embarrassed asking for her help.

"Your hand." Rumi grinned and opened hers.

Maiyu frowned at the gesture, "Now isn't the time for jokes, I know you don't need to do that to open a portal."

Rumi laughed at how quick-witted her headmistress was and nodded her head as a portal warped by their side.

In Tenji's home–living room,

Asahi tried to escape from the house as he struggled with the door which was devoid of any handle or knob and could only open with the touch of its natural owners.

"Who the fuck does this kind of modification to their home?!" He freaked out as he looked in the direction of the corridor from which he had fled several minutes after he gained the courage to dash away from there after Rumi abandoned him.

'Come on! Where the heck are his parents?! Why me?!' He cried internally and banged at the door.

He had never felt so useless in his life and was regretting his ability as there was nothing or no one he could manipulate their mana.

Giving up on kicking on the door, his eyes doubled in size as he noticed a black mist seeping out of his professor.

"Fuck no! What the heck is going on??" He pushed on the door with his back in fright.

His heart was pounding with untold fear and worry about what this would mean for him and the sister who had developed scratch marks on her pointing finger to her elbow.

When a portal opened up in front of him, he dropped to his butt and let out a sigh of relief, glad that he wasn't abandoned.

Rumi and Maiyu stepped out and the first to gasp at what they witnessed was Maiyu.

'H-How could it have gotten to this stage so early?' She had her hands covering her mouth and finally understood why she had felt something wrong with his aura while in her office.

Without thinking she rushed towards Tenji.

Rumi called out worried as she had not envisioned it to go this bad since she left, "headmistress, that's not a good ide–"

"Rumi..." Asahi called on her attention from behind.

Turning around, she saw a traumatized Asahi sitting on the floor. There was a little spark of hope the moment she called out his name and rushed toward him.

"What the heck happened to you?!" Rumi yelled in disbelief at his state.

Asahi forced a smile at her indirect method of worrying about his welfare.

"Don't you smile at me! Why are you in this state?!" She snapped in displeasure at how he tried to hide his emotions.

When he didn't speak, she suddenly realized that there was a reason she had brought their headmistress to help, her attention was drawn to the corridor once more.

"What are you doing?!" Rumi hissed and her body stiffened and couldn't look behind her.
