Chapter 10 - 010 - Training Icy

It has been around two weeks since Icy hatched.

Right now I am bringing Icy to the field behind the house. In these two weeks, Icy has been growing at an absurd pace. When it first comes out from the egg, its size is around the same as a horned rabbit. But today, it has grown around half from its first size.

Not only that, but I have also noticed something weird with Icy in the last two weeks. Icy is more docile than I expected. Icy act like nothing is wrong with being close to humans. In the Monster Catalogue book, it is also said that to tame a wyvern a lot of time and trust from said wyvern is needed. So the tamer needs to gain trust in many ways. The easiest one is obviously by using food. Providing the wyvern with food will lower the wyvern guard toward the giver. Then again, that method is a long process. It can last for many years without the wyvern trusting its tamer.

Meanwhile, Icy trusted humans very easily. It feels like Icy doesn't have its natural instinct of wariness around different species, this time human. If explained, it is like Icy is descended from domesticated Ice Wyvern. A wyvern that has lost its natural way of living. But I have never heard anyone can tame an Ice Wyvern. So there should be no domesticated Ice Wyvern, not to say the egg of domesticated Ice Wyvern.

I can't help but remember the mysterious old woman that gives me the egg.

Well, nothing can be done by thinking about that old woman. No matter how many times I use thinking about her, I will not be able to solve the mysteries surrounding her.

The reason I brought Icy here is to train it. Just like I said, Icy is too docile for an Ice Wyvern. I want to train it so that it can hunt for food by itself. In case something happened and I can't provide food for Icy anymore, I want Icy to be able to live.

"Icy, come down here!" I shouted to Icy that is now flying around six meters from the ground. Icy then dived toward me before landing beside my body. It is not the first time I let Icy goes outside the house. I can see that it is excited to play outside.

"Master Aquila, the preparation has been completed," said Lief.

A week ago, I sent a letter to Hardersfield. I wanted some horned rabbits alive. These rabbits are going to be used as today's training target. I will release three or four horned rabbits and let Icy catch them. Lief is the one that prepared the field for today.

I see the field in front of me. Three horned rabbits are roaming free on the field. They are separated from each other. One of the horned rabbits is walking near us.

"Thank you, Lief," I said my gratitude toward Lief before looking at Icy's sharp eyes. "Icy, today that is your meal… Go catch them if you don't want to starve."

Icy look back at me before giving a short growl and looking at the field. But it then stands in the same place only looking at the horned rabbits. It didn't feel like Icy will move from this place, so I also sit down on the grassy field.

After waiting for half an hour without anything happening, a horned rabbit walk closer to our place.

Icy started to get interested in the weird creature nearby. Icy walks using its wings and feet closer toward the horned rabbit.

The horned rabbit is startled to see a bigger monster. It knows that the sky-blue-colored monster that comes closer is a threat. It started to run away from Icy.

Icy is getting more interested in the horned rabbit. Icy followed the horned rabbit by flying at a low altitude, around 30 cm away from the ground.

The horned rabbit feels that it can't run far away from Icy, decided to defend its life by attacking Icy. It jumped and attacked Icy using its horn.

Icy is startled and flies a bit higher to not get hit by the horned rabbit. But Icy is not really affected by the horned rabbit's attack.

Seeing that its attack can easily be dodged, the horned rabbit started to flee faster. Seeing the horned rabbit run faster, Icy once again followed the horned rabbit.

The same scene was then replayed a few times more. It only ended when the horned rabbit falls to the ground out of stamina.

When that happen, Icy also landed nearby. Icy then nudge the fallen horned rabbit using its head.

"Did Icy think the horned rabbit is playing?" I facepalmed at the possibility that this is the thing that happened. I concluded that the training today failed and Icy is indeed too docile.

Feeling that there is no reason to keep training, I let Icy play on the field for the day.

"I need to choose another training method," I muttered in a small voice before looking at Lief that is still standing nearby. "I am sorry that the horned rabbit is not used properly. Also, tell the villager my sorry."

* * *

Ema runs from the house toward the field.

"What happened? Why are you so in a hurry?" I asked the out-of-breath Ema.

Ema tried to regulate her breath a bit before answering my question. "Th-There is a letter from Lockway house."

"A letter? From Lockway house!?"

"Yes, there is a messenger bird coming from the Lockway house. Claude also has checked that the letter is indeed from the Lockway house."

At this time, the young Ice Wyvern that should be training in the field flies back toward me and Ema. Looks like it noticed that Ema has come to the field. It let out a soft and short growl before landing on Ema's arm. It then pokes Ema's cheek using its snout.

In the last two weeks, Icy has become closer to Ema than to other humans in the house.

"Good boy!" said Ema.

I feel bad to ruin this scene but, "So, where is the letter now? In the office?"

"Ah! I am sorry… Yes, the letter is now with Claude. Claude is waiting in the office," explained Ema.

I wonder what is written in the letter?
