Chapter 14 - CONFRONTING THE ABYSS

Despite having defeated Fear, the pain from Annika's loss lingered like a haunting shadow. Anger ignited his eyes with a fiery red glow as he sat in silence, watching the news, desperately suppressing the overwhelming urge for vengeance that pulsed in his heart. The night stretched endlessly, dark and oppressive, but he patiently awaited the dawn.

When morning arrived, Guion woke, showered, and donned his uniform, a revolver fully loaded at his side. He ignored breakfast, driven by a singular purpose. He planned to set out alone, determined to confront the remaining members of the Big Five in Washington. However, as he opened the door, he found Erick waiting outside. Concern etched on his brother's face, Erick feared Guion might do something reckless, and his instincts were right.

"Yo!" Erick called out as Guion stepped outside. Leaning against his car, hands tucked into the pockets of his oversized FBI shirt, he had parked squarely in the middle of the street. Guion felt a mix of disappointment and relief that Erick had caught up with him despite his intentions to leave discreetly. "What are you doing here?" Guion asked, trying to keep his tone steady. "You tell me; you're the one leaving with a gun. I don't imagine you're going to work," Erick replied, his brow furrowing with concern. "That's where I'm headed, actually," Guion said, starting to walk past him. "I'm coming too," Erick insisted, stepping into Guion's path.

Guion halted, frustration bubbling beneath the surface. "We don't know how many of them are out there. This is going to get dangerous. I can't risk you getting hurt.", "You may have taken out Fear, but the others are stronger. You can't fight them alone," Erick countered, his voice firm. "Even with my help, it'll be two against an army of monsters.", "Better than one," Erick replied, unwavering. "This is why I can't take you with me. You think everything is a joke," Guion said, shaking his head.

"Is that so?" Erick challenged, his eyes glinting with determination. He outlined a plan that offered a slim chance of success ten percent, if they executed it flawlessly. They didn't need to confront all three; they only had to eliminate their leader, Hate. Erick believed that Hate was the source of their corruption, and if they could change the leadership, the rest would follow.

Guion, the Overwhelm holder of blind love, was the strongest among the Big Five, making him the ideal candidate to lead. However, they faced the daunting task of sneaking past the numerous guards surrounding the White House, which Erick had a strategy for. He firmly warned Guion against attempting to confront all three at once, having learned their true powers and fearing for his brother's safety.

He detailed their identities. Elianna Fury, known as Rage, was a twenty-two-year-old Latina with long, curly black hair. Standing at one meter seventy-five, she wielded unimaginable firepower that intensified with her anger. Her flames, dubbed "hellfire," could turn bricks to ashes and disintegrate mountains with a mere touch.

Then there was Michael Grieving, or Pain, a sixteen-year-old boy with short, tousled black hair. Erick deemed him the most dangerous of the Big Five because pain grows faster than any other emotion. The more pain he suffered, the stronger he became. The Overwhelm holders experienced the tragedies of their predecessors, and Pain bore the weight of countless generations of suffering. Erick feared that Pain's ability to corrupt love made him a formidable adversary.

Finally, there was Julius Haine, known as Hate. His power of destruction manifested as a violent telekinetic force capable of reducing anything to particles. The more hatred he felt, the more potent his abilities became. Erick explained that Julius had an incredible willpower, which allowed him to maintain control over the Big Five for so long. He made it clear to Guion that if he went in thinking he could save him, he would lose everything.

Erick proposed to take on Rage alone, urging Guion to send her his way once the fight broke out. Guion immediately rejected the idea, fearing for Erick's safety. "You said it yourself; she's one of the Big Five. She'll squash you like a bug.", "Sorry, do you have a better idea?" Erick shot back, sarcasm lacing his words. "Yeah! You stay here. That's my idea," Guion replied, frustration evident in his voice. "I prefer mine," Erick insisted. "I can't allow that," Guion said firmly. "Oh, yeah? What are you going to do, monster-love me into submission?" Erick retorted. "Face it, dude, I'm the only one with a car. If you're going to Washington, you're going to need it."

Guion placed his right hand on the Mustang, eyes closed tight, feeling the weight of the decision before him. Reluctantly, he conceded. "You might really die, you know.", "I've known them my whole life, and I'm still here. Besides, you could die too," Erick replied, turning to meet Guion's gaze. Taking a deep breath, Guion smiled faintly and extended his fist. Erick bumped it with his own, sealing their pact. "Let's go put an end to hatred." "There's a good ring to that," Guion said, walking toward the door and opening it.
