Chereads / A Loner Inside The Novel / Chapter 22 - The Plan Ahead

Chapter 22 - The Plan Ahead

The bell rang as the today's lessons finished.

"Have a good weekend, kids!"

Ember left the classroom quickly. Following her, many other students left as well. I was also going to leave but I heard some dispute just near me. I didn't need to look at what was happening since it had become an occasional thing during the past week.

Four lackeys of Ralph had surrounded Leon's table and were bothering him. Though Leon appeared unaffected by their presence, as if they were invisible to him, I knew he felt really irritated deep inside. He just didn't show it on his face. He just casually stood up after picking up his bag. Seeing him leave without a worry, the head of the group shouted at Leon to taunt him.

"What happened? Are you that scared to face us? A peasant like you only knows how to run anyway. Did your peasant father teach you how to run as well?"

Just as Leon was about to leave the classroom, he abruptly stopped upon hearing his father being insulted right in front of him. The group burst into laughter which made Leon more enraged since he was extremely sensitive about his family, who lost their lives during the dungeon outbreak. Family was a taboo for Leon.

'These guys are messing with the wrong person on the wrong subject. They will face severe consequences in the long run. It's unwise to mock someone's sensitive values, especially if that person is destined for success.'

I observed the situation from a distance. I noticed Leon's rising anger as his fist clenched tightly. He turned around to say something but was interrupted by Isabelle instead.

"If you guys think so highly of yourselves, why don't you show your 'superiority' by excelling in ranks rather than trying to insult and pull down those who are on the top. The ones who looks miserable are no other than you guys."

The group, including Gordon, was taken aback by how things turned out. They didn't expect one of the most powerful guild's heir to defend Leon as well as insult them. Given they were shocked, they just stood there while whispering some words among themselves. They didn't want to get on bad terms with Isabelle.

"Thanks..."

Leon whispered to Isabelle, which made both Isabelle and Juliet, who was also eyeing the whole event, show subtle surprise on their faces. After that Leon left the room.

As soon as Leon left, Gordon turned his face to me. I immediately sensed what was coming for me. He was planning to vent his frustration on me, yet another peasant.

I quickly stood up from my seat and started to walk towards the door with a fast pace. I saw that the squad formed meat wall between me and the door, which made me question the absurdity of the situation.

'What's wrong with these third-class villains... Always so lame.'

"Hey Theodore! How have you been? Do you want to talk at the cafeteria? Don't worry the meal is on me."

It was a pretty good deal if only there wasn't a creepy smile on Gordon's face. I walked towards them with a forced smile.

"Yes or no? A low-blood like you wouldn't dare to reject my invitation rig-"

But he suddenly stopped bragging as he saw me running towards them. I was going to slam against the meat wall, at least they though like that. Just as I was about to collide, I swiftly sidestepped them and hopped onto a nearby desk. Before they got over their confusion, I was already at the door.

"YOU LITTLE B#*&H!!"

Oh boy, did that annoy Gordon a lot.

"Thanks for the compliment∼"

I just waved my hand at Gordon with a grin on my face. I could see Isabelle and Juliet looking at me weirdly. Though I didn't really mind that.

I shut the door on their face and went to my dorm. On my way to the dorms I thought about Gordon. I was able behave care-free towards him without the worry of getting the attention of Ralph since I knew Gordon wouldn't tell what happened to Ralph. This would show his incompetence.

He had become quite a pain in the ass during my stay in the academy so far. In fact, I wouldn't mind getting rid of him at this point.

'He has already finished his only part in the plot anyway.'

His job was to make Leon and the female leads get to know each other. As Isabelle defended Leon from their malicious intent, Leon would become closer with the female leads. Considering the events that just happened in the classroom, it looked like they actually became somewhat acquainted. It was a good sign.

I entered to my dorm, which gave me a sense of tranquility. I had gotten use to this place since I reincarnated into this world. I laid on my bed and pondered about the future plot. I needed to form a plan.

The final exam of the first quarter of this school year was going to be announced in a couple of weeks. It will be an unexpectedly difficult exam. But it was necessary to pick out the talented ones. The demon threat was becoming more dangerous and humanity needed promising worriers, not a bunch of useless cannon fodders.

I wasn't ready for what was coming right now even though I was able to raise up to (F)-Rank in a relatively short time, I was still lagging behind the level of the protagonists. Leon must have broken through (E+)-rank not long age, while both Isabelle and Juliet must have already broken through (E)-rank. If I wanted to survive in this world. I had to make more advancements.

Coming back to the final exam, it was going to be a survival challenge on a deserted island, full of demons. Fortunately, this island was a property of the Light Academy and will be completely free of high-ranking demons that could potentially harm the students. Thankfully, it wasn't a team challenge. Yet it wasn't prohibited to team up either.

It was crucial for me to achieve a high rank in this exam in order to climb the school's ranking system. I was planning to at least get into the 4th layer (Top 1000). I wouldn't mind receiving some gifts from the academy after all. Right now I was rank 2154. It wasn't going to be easy but that didn't mean it was impossible.

As I recalled something, a gloomy expression crept onto my face.

'However... there will be some intruders during the exam on the island. The intruders will be from a cult named The False Creed.'

This cult was ruled by demons. However the members of the cult were almost entirely humans. Humans that worshipped demons. Because of this, the cult is also known as demon worshipers among public. The members of this cult was people who were blinded by greed and anger, which made them a vulnerable targets for demons to manipulate and brain wash.

It should have been impossible to infiltrate into Light Academy, which it was actually. However not if somebody from inside were to help the cult. Unfortunately, this was the case right now. Even the head master was not aware of the fact that there was a traitor within the academy.

Of course I could disclose the information I knew but it would be futile. They wouldn't take me seriously. I would have never done it anyway even if I had the chance. I wasn't planning on losing my advantage of knowing the future just to save some lives.

It will be troublesome. The students will have to survive both the demons and the demon worshipers at the same time. Although the academy staffs will be able to save many, some casualties will be inevitable.

"I will need to get some power ups before the exam or else I might end up as one of those unlucky people who are going to die."

I wasn't planning to stay lazy during these couple of weeks. I had some plans for this weekend as well.

I closed my eyes and just let the cushion eat me alive.
