Chapter 18 - No Title

And again, without waiting for the answer, he picked a bag full of canned beer and said, "Anyways, you can come down and take a few if you want. Let's go. I will show the second floor and attic to you guys. Julia would often clean the second floor but I am not sure about the attic. If you might need to clean up, you can take things from the basement. She got almost everything in it."

The two silently followed and they got back to the corridor. When the guys saw them, they immediately picked up things to go to the second floor. Peter asked, "So, Kevin. Can my guys go down and take things in the basement?"

Kevin didn't care. He said while walking up along the stairs, "Everything is fine as long as you don't break or waste the goods out there."

After showing around and placing the officers in the second floor, Kevin went down to the kitchen. Peter and Tina still followed him since Peter wanted to have a chat with Julia. Kevin lead the two into the kitchen and at there, they saw freshly cooked foods on the table. Ava was already eating a piece of chocolate cake and drinking a bottle of milk. Julia is watching her granddaughter with smiles.

When she saw the three people coming in, she gestured them to take the seats but didn't serve the foods. Was that a joke? The three adults still wanted this old granny to serve their foods which were already prepared well and placed on the table? Julia preferred to take care of her baby granddaughter Ava in comparison.

After putting the guns back to safety mode, the three took their seats. Fortunately, there were actually six chairs around the big dining table.

Kevin didn't complain. After sitting down, he started to grab and eat the foods silently. As for Peter and Tina, they didn't know what to do and how to start the conversation. Looking at them, Julia smiled and said, "Two officers, you should eat too. We have to fill our stomach and raise strength to face incoming storm."

"Enjoy our precious moments well. After all, we don't know what is going to happen to us."

"Death is almost in front of our door. It's never been so closed."

Julia watched the four people enjoying her foods, she couldn't help but wondered about her life. She is already so old that most of her old friends were already silently lying down in the cemetery. May be they were already with the Lord they believed in or may be not.

However, she still has her granddaughter who is innocent. So whether it is for Ava or for her to watch the growth of Ava, she acted like a paranoid in the past. She saw many dirt of the gray society. Her daughter died in a car crash. However, the other party didn't get the punishment he deserved just because of his rich dad. She knew the society was never fair since she was young. She saw great depression days when people were dying from hunger. She saw the tragic war which only normal people died as brave soldiers. She wanted to take revenge with her hands but her only reason stopped her. After all, she still has Ava.

This morning, she wanted to go out and search for Ava. However, she still tried her best to trust on the ability of her son in law. Fortunately, the gods didn't abandon her completely. When she met Ava again, her joys were beyond the words.
