Chapter 18 - 18. His Study

She was no longer in the firm, cozy embrace of her mate. As Evelyn's eyes fluttered open she found herself completely lone in her bed. She didn't know if she was to feel glad or disappointed with her mate so shunning his thoughts away was her first clue.

It was only morning and probably the time for breakfast as Evelyn heard numerous chatters and clatters and banging of the doors. Something was surely going on downstairs and it just intrigued her to sneak a peek.

She rushed out of bed and in a hurry got a good look of herself in the mirror to avoid an unplanned nest on her head. The next thing she did was to fetch the first jacket from the giant closet furnished to her. She hadn't really had the mind to check out her room entirely but she'd surely do it sometime tomorrow.

She left the door to her room behind her unbolted in a haste to run downstairs. All that noise wasn't annoying but rather made Evelyn feel like she was making an entrance in a detective movie. The sight of people running about back and forth in the gigantic foyer piqued her interest and she sought to continue her investigation.

However her pleasure only lasted long enough until a pair of eyes took her presence into consideration.

Michael was quick to come by her side as he saw Evelyn climbing down the stairs. After the scene she'd created last night, Evelyn was at once proud and insecure regarding the feelings the pack would now develop towards her. But as her eyes landed on a pair of dark forest green ones that had the resemblance of the midnight sky and moon and open woods, as usual she forgot all her worries.

As soon as she got a veista of his captivating eyes, her heart instantly melted on the spot. She felt a flutter of butterflies flying in her belly as her mate's scent hurriedly approached her. It was stronger than last night, stronger than the first time she'd taken it into account. Her human self was feeling hot like a flaming fire whilst the first instant of her wolf was to run up into her mate's arms—however she could only dream of it while being subjected to an owner as obstinate as Evelyn.

For some unbelievably strange reason, Evelyn was getting drawn to Michael's human personality as well since she'd already taken a liking towards his wolf. Evelyn could feel it was only a matter of time before she'd utterly fall head over heels for Michael.

"Morning little wolf." He greeted in a rather rejoiced tone, one that resembled his glee towards stumbling onto her precious face.

"Morning to you too alpha." Evelyn tried to sound reasoning although she couldn't hide the playful mischeviousness in her tone.

"It's just Michael to you." He didn't sound scolding but he was displeased to hear his title yet not his name coming out in the beautiful voice of hers. His name on her tongue made his wolf go crazy and yet he wanted to hear it on rewind like his favourite song.

"What's with the rush?" Evelyn asked to mask the growing, discomforting silence between them. To some extent she was feeling glee as everyone of the wolf in the foyer avoided looking at the two lovebirds even when they're occupying the centre of the hall to themselves.

'Well technically he does own the whole mansion so it shouldn't be much of a problem, no?' Evelyn murmured to herself.

Upon hearing Evelyn's spoken question a quick malicious rictus swept up the nothingness of his face, making Evelyn struggle to find a clue about his upcoming plans.

'How could he be so merciless and heart-melting at the same time?' She thought almost forgetting for a second that he could read her thoughts as easily as if they're his own.

"It's a surprise for you . . ." He bit his lower lip from revealing further more and Evelyn found the gesture to be quite compelling. He was surely as excited as a ten year old would be about his surprise birthday party.

Evelyn couldn't help but giggle as she read his most absolutely involuntary actions. He wouldn't be that naive in reality, ever.

"Would you like to join me in my study?" Evelyn was quick to response to his proposal.

She stared at him wide eyed making sure he really just meant those words and it wasn't some foolish playing of her delusional mind. And by the look she got from him, patient and waiting, she knew he'd just asked her to join in his study.

Evelyn was happy—no, blessed to hear that he was inviting her on his own accord to his study but she felt a bit wrong accepting his offer. Evelyn loved learning about history and science and books were the sole companion in the dire nights back at her own house. But she was never allowed to go into William's study.

She recalled once daring to question her father regarding the inability to understand the true prominence of an alpha's study. His answer to her was, 'A place as sacred as a study should not be invaded by those who fails to give it the praise and respect it deserves. A place as holy as that is only meant for someone of the higher ranks like the alpha himself.' She was a little surprised when she'd learned that Mrs. Osborne hadn't visited his study at once in her life and she never looked too keen on that topic either.

And now Evelyn was torn. Torn between the venomous words of her father ringing in her ears and at the same moment, her mate was making the life and the world look so fabulous before her eyes, so tempting and approachable. But if only she could shut all that she'd learned in her past life off, if only she could let go but even her wolf knew it was too soon.

"I will love to join you." She eventually blurted out in a whisper. If it hadn't been for Michael's fixed gaze on her, the chances of him hearing her at all were low. But the moon goddess didn't seem to be in Evelyn's favour today as Michael half-carried, half-dragged her upstairs to where she could only imagine as his study.

Evelyn instantly regretted agreeing to his proposal when he tugged at her wrist mercilessly without a warning. Although for some twisted, sick reason Evelyn seemed to like that as she tried to keep up with his pace.

'His study! His study! I'm going to his study!' Evelyn mentally rolled her eyes at her overjoyed wolf. She demanded her to shut up but she was crossing every limit of human excitement, not to mention testing Evelyn's not so in checked patience.
