Ten kilometers below the ground, a giant research facility is in its most important moment since it started operating.
In a room with a few futuristic computers and bright screens floating up in front of some experts, a gloomy atmosphere is spreading.
A dozen scientists wearing white lab coat have serious faces, some staring the data on screens while most are looking at a giant glass window.
Behind the glass window is a giant circular room, tens of meters tall and around 50 meters wide.
The room is almost empty if not for the machine roaring in the middle of that room.
"The Bridge is fully charged, all signals are green, waiting for the directors approval to activate the bridge." A voice from a lady was heard in the silent room.
The oldest man in the room left the glass window and walk behind the lady.
He put his finger on a big red button but didn't press the button before speaking.
" This is it ladies and gentlemen, 10 years of effort trying to save this world brings us here. Let me do the honor of opening humanities door for survival."
Everyone in room nods and smile to the old director but it didn't lessen the heavy atmosphere in the room.
The old man click the red button and returns to the glass window.
The machine in the wide room roars louder and louder then sparks of electricity comes out from it.
More and more electricity dances around the "Bridge" followed by circular space tear above it.
The scientists cheers and the serious atmosphere in the room was replaced by happiness.
"How's the space stability of the portal?" Asks the director.
"Its only 40 percent and its going down, we are lacking power."
"Use the emergency power and the activate the new power core,. We need to stabilize the space to send reconnaissance to the other side."
After a few intense moment, the stability of the portal keep rising until 90% when a loud beep was heard without stopping.
"Sir the scanner found a very high energy object approaching us from the other side. Its affecting the stability of the portal and is 50 seconds before reaching us."
"Is there life ratings on the approaching object?"
"Negative."
The director know how dangerous and risky if they let the alien energy enter their planet.
Shutting down the bridge will left the foreign object on space rift and will float in space for eternity.
It could be a bomb or something more dangerous but if he shutdown the Bridge, he can no longer activate Bridge again until he gathered the required energy. And energy on the nuclear level is something that almost impossible to have nowadays.
"Don't shutdown, let's see what it is who knows it maybe humanities salvation."
A few seconds before the foreign object appears, the portal widen and strech then the machine named Bridge explodes.
Giant space rift appear in the whole underground facility, and all life cease to exist.
(Not in the whole world but only on that place, come on don't be so brutal.)
A few minutes later and space is calm, no more roaring machine, no more serious people and what's left is a dark research facility or if it can still be called that. No electricity, no equipment left intact, even the walls have large cracks and corpses lay across the ground, a typical horror movie scene.
What's left on the wide room are small pieces of metal across the ground, evidence of the Bridge existence.
While the Bridge is gone, a black stone coffin lays in the middle of the room.
It lays there silently in these darkness where no life exist or is there?
Cause after an hour the corpses on the ground started moving.
Their skin darkens and their bones harden they move slowly but that only because they don't smell prey.
Year 2045 or at least for those who still keep count. In times where you cannot be sure if you still will live the next day, counting dates is a luxury.
After all instead of thinking about the date why not think in how to live a few more days.
Anyway in this world almost the same as our Earth, but a lot bigger a zombie virus breaks out when they reach 2034 in their human calendar.
Zombie Apocalypse is no big deal for those goverments, gamers and nerds but reality is very cruel and all preparation are busted when the sheet hits the bricks.
Its been 10 years since the zombie virus (Z virus) broke out and the world population has dropped to maybe only 10% of what it is before.
Maybe even less cause who in their right mind will care to count when living is already as hard as it can get.
Back to our research facility, the stone coffin lays there for days.
