Chapter 199 - Bad Vibes II

"Oh but yes! Wanan-Dun is equally skilled in steel as well as stealth. I am now practicing my skills with the Big-sword. But I am able to use my bow any time I need to. Wanan-Dun has not much use for the magic arts, but can heal self if I need to." Wanan-Dun explains his qualifications, while I suppress the urge to chukle at his name and choice of words before speaking.

"Alright, you'll help us escourt a small group to Helgen and we'll consider hiring you on if you pass the initial training." I tell Wanan-Dun.

"Oh, like a test and if I make it there I pass! Very clever! Wanan-Dun likes this proposal!" Wanan-Dun exclaims energetically.

"Wonderful, have a quick meal, then tell my companions to meet me outside the town gates." I instruct him before pointing out my companions and heading out to the stables to meet with Shadr.

Shadr is still sitting outside the stables, nervously bouncing his leg as I see him him holding a bottle of Black Briar Mead he seems to be nursing before looking up in shock before reognizing me.

"Y-you're back? What did she say?" Shadr asks as he sets down his mead in anticipation.

"Good news, my friend. Your debt is forgiven, and you'll be getting that shipment as well." I reassure him eliciting a massive sigh of relief as he seems to grip his chest and finally beginning to breath.

"That's amazing! I don't know how I'll ever be able to repay you? Here, take this potion, I was saving it in case I needed to flee in a hurry." Shadr says trying to hand me a potion of invisibility, which I refuse. Putting it back in his hands as he looks at me in confusion.

"What-" Shadr starts to ask before I cut him off.

"If you're wanting to repay me, I might have a way that can not only benefit me but can serve as a wonderful opporitunity for you as well." I say, grinning beneath my mask as I prepare to smooth talk another new recruit.

"I'm sorry, but what exactly did you have in mind? Taking deals that seem too good is what got me in this mess in the first place." Shadr asks, understandable hesitant as he starts to grip the invisablity potion tighter.

"No need to be like that," I say with a chuckle before continuing, "You see, I'm working with a group looking to rebuild the recently destroyed town of Helgen, and I thought we could use a stable master with a recent influx of already paid for gear and equipment who'd be willing to relocate and open up a new stables." I say, explaining my intent.

"Oh... That's... Unexpected? Um, I don't see why I would say no? I've been with Hofgrir for the last year learning the trade, and I grew up in a horse farm back in Hammerfell. And I always wanted to own a stables of my own... But, I don't have the money to acquire the horses or pay for a stables." Shadr says explaining all of his qualifications, in a rather surprised tone before dejectedly arriving at his unfortunate lack of funds.

"No need to worry my friend. Helgen is still being rebuilt, but I'm sure they'd be more than happy to make some exceptions for an enterprising young stable master." I assure him as I see the rest of my companions coming from the city gates.

"Then I'll get my affairs in order and head off to Helgen." Shadr says resolutely as a wide smile grows on his face.

"I'm still unsure of how to thank you, but I look forward to..." Shadr pauses for a moment as he looks at me in confusion.

"Forgive me friend, you've done so much for me, but I just realized that I never got your name?" Shadr says apologetically, as he embarrassedly rubs the back of his neck.

"No worries, you can just call me Silvantus." I tell him as I see the gears beginning to turn in his head before his face flashes in recognition of my name as my new travelling companions join us.

"Y-you're him?! The commander of that mercenary company! The one hunting dragons around Whiterun!" Shadr says in awe, catching the attention Esbern, Galethil, and Olette, while Inigo's newest recruit? Salvianus, seems to be still somewhat out of it as he nods along.

With Wanan-Dun looking between everyone in confusion, before asking Inigo, "Is he someone important?"

"We'll, you could say that. He leads a mercenary company that's been doing jobs for a number of local jarls. And he has killed at least two dragons personally, with plans to kill many, many more!" Inigo exclaims proudly to Wanan-Dun.

"Wow, that is very impressive. I might consider applying to his company if they're hiring?" Wanan-Dun says with what I assume is a smile.

"Sorry, friend, we're recruiting for the Helgen Guard Corps at the moment. But, they'll be just as good as my men if the trainers have anything to say about it." I assure him as I turn my attention back to Shadr.

"And hold tight, Shadr. Once we get back to Helgen, I'll send some of my men to give you a proper escort. Just focus on saying your goodbyes and getting your affairs in order." I instruct Shadr before turning my attention to my little group.

"Okay, everyone, we'll be traveling for a few hours before stopping to make camp before carrying on to Helgen tomorrow." I tell them, before we hit the road.

Our travel is fairly uneventful, save for Olette becoming rather tired about an hour in, resulting in me carrying her for the next two hours. Only stopping when my map showed that we're only a short way away from the abandoned cabin we needed to go to for her quest.

"Alright, let's break for camp. Inigo, Wan, you'll be in charge of first watch. I'll be scouting the area with M'rissi and then I'll take over with Salvianus once we return." I tell everyone before laying Olette down on a cot as Esbern starts a small fire before he turns in for the night.
