Chapter 76 - New Me, New Family III

Once at her door, I pull out a set of lock picks and slowly begin teasing the pins until I finally pop open the lock and slowly creak the door open to find Alva's thrall, Hroggar, sitting in a chair in a corner.

I give Jenassa the signal and we quickly push into the room causing Hroggar to exclaim in shock, "Who are yo-"

He starts to say getting out of his chair before I clothesline his neck, knocking him to the ground before Jenassa gives him a solid thump to the head knocking him out cold.

"Nice one, Jenassa." I say as she silently nods in acknowledgment before we head down to the cellar.

Inside I see a coffin along with a journal of Alva's, which I give a quick read to make sure I remember the events of the quest correctly.

[My life is dreary. Where is my prince come to rescue me? Where is my bold Nord warrior to sweep me off my feet?]

[I met a man today when picking night flowers. He is exciting and exotic. We kissed in the moonlight. It was so romantic. I'm going to see him again tonight.]

[Now I understand the true colors of the night. Movarth has shown me the true black of night and the true red of blood. He has promised me a feast of blood if I do his bidding in Morthal.]

[Hroggar was easy to seduce. Movarth said I should find a protector first, someone to watch over my coffin during the day. Hroggar is perfect.]

[Laelette came to visit me tonight. She slaked my thirst. I've hidden her away to let her rise as my handmaiden. I've spread the rumor in town that she left to join the war. Fools.]

[Movarth has confided his grand plan to me. I am to seduce the guardsman one at a time and make them my slaves. Then he and the others from the coven can descend upon Morthal and take the entire town. We won't kill them. They will become cattle for our thirst. An endless supply of blood and an entire town to protect us from the cursed sun.]

[Hroggar's family is becoming inconvenient. I've told Laelette to kill them all, but make it look like an accident. Hroggar must be seen as innocent if he is going to be my protector.]

[That little fool! Laelette burned Hroggar's family alive. I asked for an accident and she gave me a scandal. To make matters worse, she tried to turn his little girl, Helgi. Except Laelette couldn't even get that right. She killed the child and left the body to burn.]

[Something is wrong with Laelette. She keeps talking about Helgi. I think her mind has snapped. She seems to think that the child can still be brought back to be her companion.]

'Hmmm... I think I forgot to confront Laelette, but if I remember correctly Alva will be in Movarth's lair and that should mean Laelette will be there too. Now to go give this info to the jarl.' I think to myself before heading out of the house before a strange sight catches my eye.

A redguard in his mid-to-late 20's shrouded in a conjuration robe makes his way into the marshes.

'Huh... Isn't that the guy who cures my vampirism? Hmmm... I wonder...' I think to myself before an idea comes to mind and I silently direct Jenassa to follow me as we stalk the redguard, Falion.

After about 20 or 30 minutes we find ourselves at a ritual site and I see Falion perform some strange ritual as purple energy flows from his fingertips and shrouds the pillars circling the site in the same energy before I feel a pulse of energy flow through the surrounding area.

And with that, Falion turns to see me standing behind him.

"Who are you?! It doesn't matter, just forget what you saw here today. Now leave!" Falion orders

"Oh? What if I don't want to forget what I saw here tonight?" I ask, standing my ground while looking him in the eye.

"It is none of your concern, I assure you and I am under no obligation to tell you anything. Now, leave me at once!" Falion orders a final time, stepping forward to look me in the eye as I see a faint glow emanating from behind his back where his hands are hidden.

"Oh? But what if I already guessed it has something to do with an ancient vampire by the name of Morvarth?" I say causing Falion to freeze and the glow behind his back to dim.

"How-... How do you know that name?" Falion questions me in shock.

"Perhaps I'm a prophet, with divine visions of the future..." I say trailing off as Falion's eyes widen in shock before I continue, "Or I found this journal proving Alva was a vampire sired by a Morvarth." I say holding up the book.

Causing Falion to sigh in exasperation, "It's not polite to cause such a great misunderstanding. Now, what is it you want?" Falion asks.

"Not much, beautiful women tending my every need, endless wealth, limitless power, dominion over all the lands of this world. Nothing no other man wouldn't want for themselves." I say randomly listening off some pretty big wants.

Falion rolls his eyes in exasperation before suggesting sarcastically, with a pointed glare, "Perhaps limit it to the bounds of what you hope to achieve from this asinine conversation."

"Then I'll settle for the latter two. You're a powerful master of conjuration and I'd like to enlist your services into my mercenary company." I say offering him a job.

"Thank you for the... Generous... Offer, but I'll have to decline sadly. I'm needed for the defense of this town against Morvarth and I can't leave my apprentice behind to go galavanting around like some wayward adventurer sticking my nose in places it doesn't belong." He retorts turning to leave.

"I think you misunderstood the position I was offering you... Let me explain the perks of this new job I can offer you." I say forcefully blocking his path.
