"Come on, just a little bit more." Raven muttered as he shifted his gaze between the clock on the wall and his watch. The young boy sat in the back row of his Spanish class. He didn't pay attention to his teacher, who was standing in front of the class. As he grew impatient, the boy's feet tapped on the floor.
He wasn't alone; almost every other student was doing the same thing. They were all prepared to leave this school and not return for the next two months. Unfortunately, it appears that Father Time has decided to slow things down a bit.
It was the last day of school before they went on vacation for the summer. They were all excited to go to the beach, travel to another country, pull all-nighters with their friends while playing an unhealthy amount of video games. Anything but sitting in this cursed school for ten hours a day.
Luckily it was Friday, so school would be ending early.
Raven isn't sure how long he's been staring at this clock, but it feels like hours. He tried to pass the time by drawing, but it didn't work. He was unable to use his phone. Music was out of the question because his earphones had died. He's tried almost everything to keep himself busy.
Nothing appeared to be working. So he went back to staring at the cloak like a stupid idiot, but at least he wasn't the only one.
He has never wanted to run out of a classroom so badly in his fifteen years of life. Raven had neck-length black hair and emerald green eyes. He stood five feet seven inches tall. The boy worked out every other day, plus school sports, so he was quite fit.
Raven stared at the clock until it struck three, at which point he heard the most holy sound ever, the bell. Everyone was out of the classroom in a flash, without even waiting for the teacher to tell them to.
The whole "the bell doesn't dismiss you, I do" thing was thrown out the window. It wasn't just Raven's class; it was the same in every class at the school. That school year had been especially difficult because they were entering their 12th year.
Raven was a year or two younger than the majority of the students. Raven attended a private school, so their summer vacation begins in late June and school resumes in early September, as opposed to other schools, who only get six weeks of they had eight.
Raven was prepared to... well, he had no idea what he wanted to do. He was probably going to spend the entire time watching movies. He wouldn't be surprised if his friends dragged him somewhere. He, on the other hand, wanted at least a week to himself before that happened.
Raven entered the parking lot and took out his phone. He looked around for his driver, but he couldn't find him. When I saw this, a frowned formed. His driver usually arrives early and waits for him.
"Raven!" Raven was about to call his driver when he heard his name called. He groaned as he recognized the all-too-familial voice.
He lowered his hands and slid his phone back into his pocket. Raven turned around and almost burst into tears when he saw his friend, Adam. Tears of sadness, not joy. He and Adam have known each other since they were seven years old. They are very good friends; it's just that Adam likes to disturb Raven's peace.
He once dragged the boy all the way to Japan just to sample some 'authentic' ramen. Raven couldn't deny that the trip was enjoyable, but it was completely unnecessary. His father gave him a hard time because he thought Raven had run off with some girl he met.
Despite the fact that Raven has never dated for more than a month. Mostly because the girls were too shallow for him.
Adam approached the boy, his bag slung over his shoulder and a big smile on his face. Raven didn't like where this was going, and the conversation hadn't even started yet!
"Raven, do you have any plans for the summer?" Adam inquired.
"Actually..." Raven was about to make something up, but he couldn't.
"Of course not; you never do." Nodding his head, Adam said. He turned his gaze away from his friend, who was fighting the urge to smack him. "Would you like to come to Singapore with me and a few others?"
"Uhm?" Raven tucked his hand under his chin, pretending to consider Adam's question. "No." He said blackly with a smile.
Raven smiled as he looked at Adam. He walked past him, wanting to buy some water because the place was scorching hot.
Adam pursued him with a puzzled expression. He couldn't understand Raven's refusal because he knew the boy would just sit at home and watch TV the entire time.
"But, man, why? It'll be fun." Adam stated.
"I'm confident it will." Raven gave a nod. "When you get back, please tell me how it went."
Adam sighed as he looked at the boy. He had hoped Raven would want to accompany them, but the chances were slim. But his hope had just died completely. Adam couldn't even offer Raven anything to persuade him to come with him.
Anything Adam could offer Raven already had or could easily get. Raven was not one to follow the crowd simply because others did it. Raven would only go if he was bored out of his mind, and Adam was well aware of this.
Adam couldn't stop sighing. He didn't want his friend to spend two months sitting at home watching TV.
"Raven." Adam mentioned attracting the boy's attention. "Have you tried playing Limitless Online yet?"
"Not like this again." Raven sighed as he returned to the parking lot. He handed Adam a bottle of water and took off his jacket. "Why is it so freaking hot; I should not have take this thing off earlier."
"Yup." Adam agreed. "I've told you many times that it's a good game. Just try it, I swear to you, you wouldn't regret it."
"What's so amazing about a game that doesn't even let you choose your anything at the start?" Raven inquired.
"That's half the fun. You're almost completely in the dark. To rise through the ranks, you must rely on your skills and a bit of luck." Adam stated. Despite being out for a month, he loved the game and it quickly became his favorite.
Limitless Online is a VRMMORPG that was released to the public about a month ago. It's all anyone really talks about these days. Many people enjoy it because, unlike other similar games, you do not get to choose your race or starting point at the start. One's class is also completely random. You're relying on luck from the start.
Some argue that this is what makes it enjoyable. Raven was not into many games, so he was never interested in it. Adam had tried numerous times to persuade him to turn get the headset to play the game, but the boy had never done so.
Adam wanted to play with Raven because he was his best friend. He had a feeling the two of them would have a great time playing it.
Raven stomped his feet as he saw Adam's eyes fill with sadness. Despite Raven's best efforts, he is a big softy when it comes to those close to him.
The boy only cared about his friends and family and couldn't care less about the rest of the world.
"Will you leave me alone if I try it?" Raven stated. He avoided Adam's hug by taking a step back and to the side.
"Without a doubt! I knew you'd change your mind! Nobody can stand up to my devilish charm!" Adam yelled for all of London to hear, pointing to his face and displaying his white teeth.
"I changed my mind." Raven said as he walked away from him. He looked around and noticed his driver a little further away.
"Wait a minute, I'm sorry!" Adam chased after him, apologizing because he knew Raven would do that. "Oh, and I'm in need of a ride."
"You've decided to tell me now?" Raven swung around to face the boy. Adam shrugged and followed him.
"My driver is on vacation, and my parents are in France on business. I could take the train, but it wouldn't be as with with just me."
"You could go with Finn or Sophia?" Raven mentioned two of their friends who usually take the train home. As they continued their walk, Adam shook his head.
"They're getting ready for the trip, which is in a week."
"Haha, I didn't care." Raven stated flatly. His driver approached them, dressed in a black suit. He was a tall man with dark brown eyes and hair.
"Good evening, Mr. Night and Mr. Williams." He stated that he was taking their bags.
"Hello and good evening." Raven and Adam both said the same thing. They snickered as they looked at each other.
Raven approached the back seat and opened the door. He was about to enter when he noticed a girl sitting with her legs crossed. Her hair was bright pink, and her eyes were green. The girl appeared to be their age, and she was.
Raven slammed the door and took out his phone when he saw her. The young boy's face was flushed with anger. Adam looked at him, puzzled, and when he saw who the girl was, he nodded and took a step back.
"What brings your sister to London?" Adam asked.
"I'm not freaking know." Raven said this while holding the phone to his ear. "Father would have told me she was on her way. If she's here..."
"Then your mother is as well." Adam looked sympathetically at Raven. Even though his parents were rarely present, they were on good terms. When they stay for an extended period of time, Adam actually finds himself happy.
Raven only got along with his father, who he lived with. His mother and stepsister reside in the United States with his mother's husband. That wasn't even the worst part; the real annoyance was her husband's son.
He was the epitome of arrogance and annoyance. Most of his brain was in his pants, which he didn't have much of in the first place.
Raven attempted to contact his father to find out what was going on. He didn't mind if his mother and sister came to visit; he would be in his room the majority of the time. If that man and his devil of a son showed up, Raven might have to join Adam to Singapore.
Raven heard a beep on the other end of the line and didn't bother to listen. He tried again, and again, and again, and again. It was the same every time. He returned his gaze to Adam before returning to his phone.
"Wanna run to my place?" Raven asked. Adam coughed looking at him then at his bratty sister just sitting there on her phone.
"Sure why not."
Raven nodded and check his wallet making sure he had enough money on him, which he did. He had a little (a lot) extra in fact.
Raven and Adam exchanged a look and ran off at full speed. Both of them were quite fit so they could definitely run to his house with only a few breaks in between. It would just take a while.
Plus, they had to go get the headset for Raven. Neither of them wanted to deal with the pink haired beast in that car.
