Chapter 67 - Chapter 67

Alice went over to her chair in her office and sat comfortably with her legs crossed and her arms folded at her chest.

Ezekiel stood by the door and stared at his mother who was extremely angry.

"Ezekiel, this is not what I trained you to become," Alice started slowly.

"I trained you to become a reasonable and understanding man but I don't know what is happening anymore, Ezekiel," she added, causing Ezekiel to sigh.

He shoved his hands through his hair and shut his eyes. Why does his mother torment him always?

He had made known to her several times that had changed after what happened to him.

"Seriously? Why do you keep asking me that question when you know what happened?" Ezekiel asked.

"Because what happened has happened and nothing can change it! You have to move on with your life, Ezekiel! It has been centuries now!" Alice, whose voice was calm earlier, was now loud and angry.

"Can we not talk about this now?" Ezekiel surprisingly added "please."

Alice didn't say a word and continued staring at her son who didn't change one bit even after his marriage to Evie. May God help her soul.

"Leave," Alice ordered while shutting her eyes and leaning on the table.

****************

Evie did not know how she fell asleep but all she remembered was that she was crying and then slept off.

She rubbed her eyes because her vision was blank and almost screamed when she saw the figure in front of her.

"Ezekiel?" She called out to be sure it wasn't her imagination.

Ezekiel did not reply but kept his gaze fixed on her. Evie got off bed and walked up to him where he was in his favourite position; by the window.

"How did you get in?" Evie asked, she was one hundred percent sure that she locked the door behind her.

"Spare key," Ezekiel answered coldly.

Evie heaved deeply, trying to look for the right words to say.

"I want you to leave please," Evie pleaded, she was not ready to entertain him.

"Really?" Ezekiel asked as he cocked an eyebrow and approached her in a stylish manner.

"What are you doing?" Evie asked as she kept on stepping backwards until Ezekiel had her trapped.

The both of them didn't say a word to each other as they kept staring into each other's eyes.

Those emerald green eyes of Evie were so captivating and alluring, he never knew she had beautiful eyes until now. God! What was happening to him?

Ezekiel's ocean blue eyes were the things Evie liked about his features, she had never seen any eyes as beautiful as his.

"I don't know what you are thinking of Ezekiel but…" Evie trailed off because Ezekiel captured her lips with his.

Those were the softest lips he had ever tasted, even the sight alone was so compelling.

'Focus on the task Ezekiel!' he reprimanded himself as he searched her memory.

He was surprised to find out that Evie knew about Gracie all along, connecting the dots together. He was able to figure out the reason why Evie was crying the previous day, it was all because of him, because he made out with Gracie but why on earth is he feeling guilty?

Evie used all her might to pull away from the kiss, though it was a. Gentle and passionate kiss which she responded to, she can't be a victim of Ezekiel's activities.

"What was that for?" Evie yelled at him causing Ezekiel to chuckle.

"What is so funny in what I said?" Evie asked again, she did not like being an object of ridicule.

"You are actually yelling at me when you also enjoyed the kiss with an open heart," Ezekiel taunted her, causing her to blush hard.

"A human body tends to respond to the advances made on them," Evie was quick to defend herself, Ezekiel wasn't going to win this time around.

"Really? Why don't we check that out?" Ezekiel asked, causing Evie's jaw to drop.

"You know what? Get lost!!" Evie yelled at him pushing him at his chest so she could escape.

Ezekiel stepped backwards and gave her the space she desired.

Then there was a long reign of an awkward silence between them. Evie looked anywhere but Ezekiel but Ezekiel had his gaze trained on Evie.

"I am sorry," Ezekiel apologized and Evie felt she heard wrong.

What the hell?! Did he just apologize to her?! Evie did not know when the tears started to stream down her eyes as she turned to look at him. Her throat hurt when she opened her mouth to say something.

"For what Ezekiel?" Evie asked, tears flowing like a river.

Ezekiel stiffened in his position as he watched his stubborn wife cry like a baby, he must have hurt her real bad but is he doing this?

He doesn't know, normally her feelings were the least of his concerns but then ever since he set his eyes on her in their first meeting at highway restaurant, something in him told him that she was not good for him, that she would weaken him but yet he chose to marry her. He was too confident in his self control.

"For everything I did to wrong you Evelynn, I am deeply sorry," he apologized one more time as he tried approaching her.

"No, stay away from me! I don't want you anywhere near me!" Evie barked at him, as the uncontrollable tears continued streaming down her eyes.

Evie tried to stop crying but the tears were really stubborn and were forcing its way out.

"Evie, please listen to me," for the first time in Ezekiel's life he was calling Evie but her short name not her full name.

Evie froze after she heard her name, it sounded so appealing to the ears.

"Ezekiel, could you please leave, I beg of you, please," Evie pleaded as Ezekiel watched her unable to do anything.

Without any more word, Ezekiel strode out of Evie's room but not without banging it loudly to show he was displeased.

Evie collapsed on the ground, burying her face in between her thighs, balling her eyes out.

Ezekiel got in his car and drove off to Xander's home.

Ezekiel was shocked to see Juicy on Xander's laps eating popcorn and watching Netflix.

This was the reason why Xander had been so occupied lately. Anytime Ezekiel asked Xander to come over, he would come up with an excuse that he was busy.

Ezekiel looked at the couple who were oblivious of his presence and imagined him and Evie. God! This lady was getting into his head day by day.

"Now I see why you have been busy lately," Ezekiel made his presence known to the couple.

Juicy swiftly got off Xander's body while Xander looked less bothered.

"Not that I am complaining anyway," Ezekiel added as he walked up to Xander. "I need to talk to you in private now!" He whispered into his ears and left for the garden.
