Chapter 45 - 44 Summoning jutsu

Naruto feigned complete focus on his training, deliberately ignoring Jiraiya's theatrical efforts to gain his attention. In truth, he was quietly amused, chuckling internally at the unfolding drama.

Of course, it wasn't that Naruto didn't want to train under Jiraiya. A legendary Sannin and a Kage-level powerhouse like Jiraiya would undoubtedly bring immense benefits. For instance, Naruto knew the theory behind Rasengan, but he couldn't openly practice it without arousing suspicion about how he knew such an advanced technique.

Training under Jiraiya, however, would solve this problem—Rasengan would come as a natural progression. Beyond that, Jiraiya had unique abilities like Sage Mode, the Random Lion Hair Technique, and the powerful Summoning Jutsu that called forth the toads of Mount Myōboku. Naruto also knew he'd need the toads' power if he intended to counter Gaara's Jinchūriki form in the finals.

Yet, Naruto felt a deep-seated grievance. When watching the original anime in his previous life, he had never understood why people like Jiraiya and Kakashi had stayed distant from him, offering no support during his loneliest moments. Now, it was painfully obvious that Jiraiya was here only because of Toad Sage's prophecy.

So, while Naruto would ultimately train under Jiraiya, he couldn't resist making him sweat a little first. When Jiraiya finally called out to him, Naruto turned around with feigned disbelief. "Huh? What's up, old man?"

Jiraiya's eyebrow twitched at the "old man" remark, and he pointed accusingly at Naruto. "You brat! If Kakashi hadn't begged me to train you for a month, I wouldn't waste my time with an ungrateful kid like you!"

"Kakashi-sensei asked you to come?" Naruto responded, a hint of bitterness in his tone. "I thought he didn't care about me."

Jiraiya's sharp gaze softened slightly. He had thoroughly reviewed Naruto's history before returning to the village, understanding the neglect and isolation Naruto had suffered. Guilt gnawed at him—he had failed to act as a mentor or even check on the boy in all these years.

Jiraiya clenched his fists subtly. Twelve years had passed since the death of Minato and Kushina, and in all that time, Naruto had been left to fend for himself. Yesterday, Jiraiya had confronted Third Hokage over this, but the guilt still lingered. He had been too focused on his own pursuits to see what Naruto truly needed.

For his part, Naruto wasn't truly bitter anymore. He admired Jiraiya's relentless pursuit of his dreams, even if it came at a cost. That said, Naruto wasn't going to grovel for attention or forgiveness. He'd repay Jiraiya's mentorship in full but wouldn't ignore the years of neglect.

Though Naruto eventually agreed to train with Jiraiya, he didn't abandon Might Guy's rigorous training plan. Fifty Shadow Clones continued their physical training daily under Guy's supervision while the real Naruto balanced this with Jiraiya's lessons.

The following morning, Jiraiya led Naruto to a river, wanting to assess the boy's capabilities. To his surprise, Naruto demonstrated flawless chakra control, walking effortlessly across the water's surface. Jiraiya, though impressed, masked his shock and thought, Is this truly the son of prophecy?

Jiraiya decided to teach Naruto the Summoning Jutsu, a staple of Mount Myōboku. "Naruto," he began, his voice serious. "Can you sense another chakra within you? One that feels foreign and overwhelming?"

Naruto tilted his head, feigning confusion, then slowly nodded. "You mean that red, fox-like chakra? Yeah, I've felt it before. It's... unsettling."

Jiraiya nodded, pleased. "Good. That chakra is a powerful weapon. You need to learn how to harness it if you want to realize your potential. Let's start with something simple—Summoning Jutsu!"

Biting his thumb, Jiraiya smeared blood across his palm, performed the hand seals (Boar → Dog → Bird → Monkey → Ram), and slammed his hand onto the ground. With a puff of smoke, a massive toad appeared, holding a scroll in its mouth. Jiraiya unfurled the scroll and handed it to Naruto.

"Sign your name in blood and leave your handprint," Jiraiya instructed. Naruto complied, inscribing his name with an inked thumb and stamping his hand at the designated spot.

"Now," Jiraiya continued, "focus your chakra and perform the seals. Then slam your hand to the ground."

Naruto did as told, excited to summon a mighty toad. "Summoning Jutsu!" he yelled.

A puff of smoke appeared, but instead of a large toad, there was a tiny, wiggling tadpole. Naruto blinked, then internally screamed, What the hell?! How did I mess this up like the original Naruto?!

Jiraiya burst out laughing, clutching his sides. "It's okay, kid. You've got potential. We'll try again until you get it right!"
