Chapter 2 - Chapter 1

Laying in bed my eyes slowly adjusted to the lighting. I saw a digital alarm clock sitting on a small wooden night table. Across the room was a neatly made bed directly across from mine and above it was a shelf filled with 1st place trophies and medals.

I sighed and sat up taking off my thick covers, with my eyes more adjusted to the lighting I looked at the time again. My eyebrows kitted a little when I saw it.

[7:23]

Scooching out of bed I shuffled my way across the cold hard wood floor to the closet, when I opened it I saw the same old dull colored clothes inside, and my dark green uniform laying in the corner.

'Can I even fit most of this?'

I grabbed it then opened the door to leave the bedroom that led to a dark hallway. The only light sors it, the one coming for the window behind me.

It was almost completely silent if not for the someone taking a shower in the bathroom a room over.

I walked over to the stairs grazing my hand against the wall down the dark hallway. The floor was cold against my bare feet when I was going down the stairs, each step I took made a loud creaking sound as I made my way to the kitchen.

I saw my "Mother" with a pale pink apron on going through cabinets and pulling out ingredients.

"Good morning Dallas..."she didn't even look at me when she said that with a monotone voice then grabbed a knife, and started cutting some ingredients, "your brother is in the shower right now..."

I turn my head away from her and look at the reinforced white door that leads out of the house. My cheap rundown backpack is next to a coat hanger, All the windows in the room had their blinds shut.

There was only one light, and it was coming from the kitchen.

I walked to the door and put on my shoes and started lacing them up. I heard the sounds of her knife chopping up ingredients on the cutting board. I grab my backpack and look at the steel door before twisting the freezing handle. A small click can be heard from the top of the door. I put my shoulder to the door then pushed on the ground with a small grunt. The door opened slowly bringing with it a strong skin chilling wind.

'I have to get there before the gourds arrive

Closing the door behind me I let out a deep breath into the gray clouded sky, it was almost dead silent but the high speed winds were probably just messing with my sensory.I looked up and down the road and saw nothing except evenly spaced house that look all the same including mine. There weren't even any cars on the road because no one goes outside unless they need to, So yes it was dead silent.

I put on my backpack and tightened the straps then breethed hot air onto my hands trying to warm them up, unsuccessfully. I start moving one foot after another. I pick my pace into a light jog. Running down the sidewalk, the scenery hasn't changed much from before. Same old houses that look the same.

'It should take me about 3 minutes to the academy.'

My breath is getting a little heavier, but it doesn't bother me too much. As I approach the academy, I see ginormous smooth stone walls with an iron gate in the middle of them, this was the entrance. By this point my face was getting numb, and my hair was messy from the wind blowing from all directions. Two guards are standing at the gate, and all I could think was it's these guys again, with a frown.

With a frown, I speed up my pace before they can notice me. Unfortunately they are guards for a reason, and they see me anyway. I start sprinting full force before they shut the gate in my face. It's a little game we play called "don't let Dallas in," too bad I am always Dallas. They usually win when we play.

I was only a few feet away before the guard so rudely slammed the gate in my face. Leaving me right outside the academy.

I slammed into the gate, unable to stop in time, then hearing them snicker. I see why they like this game so much.

"C'mon guys I am not even late this time!" I emphasize the "this time" with an awkward smile.

The guard on the left was amused, and looked at the guard on the right who was scratching the back of his head. The Right guard was named Richard, he was a tall figure with dark green eyes and short straight brown hair. The other guard was Leonard, people called him Lenny, I guess the name fits him well for someone who looks so plain. Lenny had blond hair that was slightly longer than Richards, with light brown eyes, and had a frame more on the skinny side.

Richard leaned forward a little, and looked at me with an indifferent expression "Well, looks like you're gonna be late today." Richard tapped Lenny on the shoulder and said "You stay here," then turned around and walked away leaving me standing in front of the gate.

I look at Lenny whos looking back at me with a dumb expression on his face.

"So…Leonard…" I said

Leonard quickly cuts me off. "Just go home, Dallas," he said coldly.

"Okay, save me a seat at lunch," I said, smiling smugly.

I salute him and start to follow the wall that surrounds the academy.

'I really don't like getting in this way, but I have to get to class somehow'.

The walls around the school are about 16 feet tall and 4 feet thick, but the academy itself was built like a fortress. So there was no acutel way of getting in except the front gate. I turn the corner and sit down to wait for a curtin someone to arrive

About five minutes later the person I'm looking for shows up running down the sidewalk to the front gate.

Austin, that was his name,he has ivry black hair with deep amber eyes that showed no emotion until he saw me.

Austin's eyebrow twitched a little bit but returned to its original place.

If other people where around they would think Austin looked emotionless but I knew for a fact that he was enraged at the sight of me right now.

He sighed and turned away from me and walked toward the gate and I followed behind him.

"So what happened this time Dallas."
