Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Beep!Beep!!Beep!!! I groan as my alarm continued to make that annoying sound, Carrie got me this alarm two years ago as she was tired of shouting out her lungs out to wake me. I look over to the time, 6.05am, I drag myself from the comfort of my bed and blanket. I dress the bed, the bed cover light blue as well as my blanket. I remember a certain time Carrie complained about my choice of color and she went on about black or purple being a matured colour. Well I don't care, the light blue reminded me of outside the city.

I walk to the bathroom, took my brush and I start brushing after applying toothpaste, I bend to rinse my mouth in the sink. I finished and look up to meet myself starring back at me through the mirror, I stare on, at my features, I knew I was beautiful, at least I wasn't that bad. I had brown eyes which were peculiar, they shone bright gold if I am using my powers, the same goes to Carrie and any other half human - half witch, although their human eye colour mustn't be brown. My brows were full and shaped in the way they fitted my face, my perfect sized lips and my black hair, well this black hair I hated. I feel it makes me feel dull or look dull. Carrie says we got our black hair from mom, that is something normal to witches, hair colour is either black or brown, which makes me envy those hybrids with red, blonde and so on. It makes them look cool.

I take off my clothes and I take my bath, stepping out, I walk to my wardrobe, I pick out a blue gown. Walking out of my room, I meet Carrie's door, her room opposite mine just the way I liked. Since I was younger I loved the position of our rooms, I remember a lot of nights I ran from my room to hers cause I was scared of sleeping alone. There was no need checking for her in her room cause I knew she was out since 6am, working In the kitchen. Taking a left turn, I stride to the kitchen, I could hear noises and laughter, I open the door to see Carrie peeling some potatoes.

"You are late" she tells me, I look up at the old looking clock on the wall, one thing Carrie didn't change since our parent's death, quarter to seven.

"Well, I told you to adjust my working hours, seven o'clock to resume work and close Six or even if late seven".

"I am pretty early, I mean 15minutes before my working time, that calls for a bonus" I tell her smirking. She turns back to peeling the potatoes and I knew what she was going to say as always about how she wakes up early.

"I wake up 5am, open this restaurant at 6am and set to work, I expect you to be here at 6:30 to assist before customers starts coming in, but no customer comes before you resume" I look over the counter to see few people.

"I am sorry sis" I back hug, I know she is smiling. One of the things I do to make her happy.

"Get off me and get to work" she is trying to sound mad but couldn't.

"Yes mom" I chuckled and we laugh together. Casper comes in holding a basket of tomatoes, being his smiling self.

"Good morning Casper" I greet. "Morning Vira, how was your night?" he asks me while dropping the basket on the table across ours.

"Fine, hope yours was fine as well?". "Yes, thank you" he goes out and I notice he has other stuffs outside as well.

"Vira, you should start chopping these vegetables. I don't think I pay you to stand" Carrie tells me as she starts to wash the potatoes.

"Let me go clean the tables before more customers comes in" I tell her moving to get a rag from the rack.

"Casper already did that, let's start cooking so the customers won't have to wait, the girls will be here soon" I nod and starts slicing the tomatoes, Casper comes in with more vegetables, cabbage, lettuce, peppers, carrots and so on. He lays them on the table close to mine and starts bringing the items out of the grocery bag. Casper doesn't live with us, but he always came early and stays late. He has always been like that since we started running this restaurant. Casper is twenty seven years old, three years difference with my sister. I round up chopping the pepper, onions and carrots as well. I look at the clock, it's few minutes to seven thirty, I take the bowl of tomatoes and pepper, I drop them it on the table in the center of the kitchen, I go back to pick the remaining bowls, onions and Carrots, I keep them on the center table, I notice Carrie drop her bowls of diced potatoes, garlic, celery, ball pepper, then Casper comes over with spices, basil, cinnamon and so on. We use a lot of spices as this is an act of kitchen witches. Carrie carries candles from the cup wooden cupboard below. She brings out six and place them on the table across mine and lits them. She takes them one by one, places them on the four corners of the kitchen, placing one at the center of the longer side. She takes out olive oil from the cupboard above her head and brings it to the table I and Casper is standing. She opens it and pours some on her left hand, she passes the bottle to me and rubs both hands together, I pour it on my right hand, pass it to Casper and rubs both of hands together, Casper does the same and covers the bottle and drops it on the table.

My sister holds my hand and that of Casper, I hold Casper's hand as well.

"Oh Wicca, our lives belongs to you. Goddess, please protect us, bless our activities today, inspire the work of our hands, to you our lives belongs to, if it harms none, oh Wicca, do your will".

She drops her hand, so did I and Casper.

"Vira can you change the flowers ?" "OK sis" I tell her, I heard striking the burner on as I go out. through the door leading outside the kitchen, on the right hand side, we had a small garden of flower pots, we had wildflowers, winter evergreen and fall flowers.

I pick up some summer wild flowers going through the kitchen door I go straight to the counter, opening the short door leading to the restaurant.

"Good morning Mr Jared" I greet the elderly man who is so engross in reading his newspaper, he looks at me with a wide smile.

"Anne, how are you" he asks me, he talks slow due to his age.

"Mr Jared I am fine and how are you doing today?".

"They are finishing with the gates today" he tells me, his eyes going back to his newspaper.

"It's only been five days, that's fast" I say taking down the old flower pot from the shelf above and replacing them with new ones.
