Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 - Adventurer's Guild

*Beep Beep Beep*

An alarm clock has turned off and resounded in the room.

*Beep Beep Beep*

It continued until someone had pressed the button to shut it up.

The person who had just turned off the alarm clock is a boy named Yoshi.

He raised both of his hands in the air, "Ahhhh~ it was a great sleep."

Yoshi looked at the alarm clock and saw that it was already 11:03 AM.

He then placed both of his feet on the ground and stood up. And then he saw the majestic looking metallic thing.

"Right! Second Life Online." He shouted, "I thought it was just a dream" He laughed.

He then once again remembered about what he had just read online about the marksman class. As he got frustrated again, he rushed to the kitchen and saw his dad eating his breakfast while reading a newspaper.

He just grabbed a piece of bread and had a little sip of milk.

His dad saw him and asked, "What's with the rush?"

"I don't really have an appetite for today, I'll just finish this in my room and play the game." Yoshi said erratically. Then he rushed back to his room.

'That's the first time I saw him energetic since he was a child.' His father thought, 'I'm glad I went up to a lot of trouble just to make the game.' He then continued eating his meal.

————————————————

I had arrived at my room and I also had finished eating the bread that I had grabbed at the kitchen.

I quickly approached the VR capsule and opened its door. Went inside and grabbed the VR helmet and wore it around my head.

I closed my eyes and as soon as I opened them again, I was in the game.

As soon as I was logged in, I was bombarded with notifications.

I opened them and another screen appeared, it was the status screen.

[Quest - Register at the Adventurer's Guild

The Adventurer's guild is a huge organization that handles and gives out quests to its members. Go and register yourself to be a member and take a quest as you grow your rank.

Quest Objective: Be a member of the Adventurer's Guild

Accept/Reject]

I pressed the accept button, and the screen disappeared.

I walked to the main road of the village to look around where the Adventurer's guild is located.

As I walked along the road for quite a while I encountered a two-story building with a sign that says, adventurer's guild.

I went inside and saw a lot of players in the building. I walked to the counter to register myself as a member.

And as I was walking the aisle players started noticing what I was carrying at my back and whispered to themselves.

"Look, a marksman." the man beckoned.

"I feel bad for him"

The girl whispered to the woman, "He can hear you."

I had heard everyone whispering about me, but I ignored all of them and just continued walking.

As I arrived at the counter, a woman who seemed to be an employee at the guild talked to me.

"What can I do for you?" She had a bright smile on her face as she asked.

"I want to register myself as a member of the guild."

When she heard what I said, she brought out a round crystal ball.

"Hold your hand on the crystal ball for a second and it will automatically register yourself as a member."

I followed her instructions and as I held the crystal ball, it glowed for a second and after a paper card flew out of it.

The woman picked it up and read the contents of the paper to me.

[Guild Card

Name: Yoshi

Class: Marksman

Rank: F]

"As you can see on the bottom of the card, it says you are ranked F," She pointed at the card, "There are a total of 7 ranks – S being the highest and F being the lowest."

I simply nodded as I listened to her.

"You can get promoted by completing quests and stacking up achievements or by doing exemplary work." She looked at me.

Then she continued, "But we also have transcended ranks which are SS, SSS, and SQ ranks." She said. "Although the guilds have already established and recognized these ranks there is still no one who has attained these ranks."

I was shocked as to what she had said to me, 'Transcended ranks, that sounds cool and fun' Yoshi thought to himself.

"Well, do you want to get a quest now?"

I nodded to her and she brought out 3 papers from her counter.

"These are the quests available to you. As you are only at F rank quest, we suggest that you get a quest appropriate to your rank. But you can also get a quest that is 1 rank higher to you but in this case you have to give it to the receptionists to get them checked."

I listened closely to what she said, "Okay."

She pushed the 3 papers from her counter, "Then what quest do you want to take?"

I inspected the papers one by one.

[Kill 10 wolves.]

[Kill 10 two-horned rabbits.]

[Collect 30 green herbs.]

As I read it, I picked up the 2nd quest. As I had already killed a lot of one-horned rabbit's I was confident about completing the quest.

Two notifications appeared.

[Quest - Register to the Adventurer's Guild Completed]

[Guild Quest - Kill Two-Horned rabbits

The evolved form of one-horned rabbits have been multiplying their numbers. Be careful with their sharp horns.

Quest Objective: Kill Two-Horned Rabbits (0/10)

Reward: 150 Gold Coins]

"After achieving the quest objective, you should give the paper to the reception to get them checked." The woman said.

I just bowed my head and placed the paper on my inventory then I left the building.

I walked outside the village and after quite a while of walking I had arrived at the fields.

I saw that there are still a lot of players hunting one-horned rabbits. As I had a different target this time, I went deeper into the fields.

After 15 minutes of walking, I finally saw my first target.

I quickly ducked and grabbed my musket and aimed it at the two-horned rabbit who had still not noticed me.

"Ohh dang it, I don't know how to use this." I had just remembered that I don't know how to use this gun.

I quickly opened my settings, scrolled down and saw the combat assist system which was turned off. I turned it back on and closed the window.

I raised my musket again and aimed at the two-horned rabbit.

[You are too far at the target.] A voice rang in my head.

I swiftly got closer to the target and aimed at the two-horned rabbit again.

[Initiating reloading gun – musket.] A voice rang in my head again.

My inventory screen appeared out of nowhere and my body moved on its own.

My hand reached out to the screen and brought out a gunpowder, tore the opening and poured half of it into the gunpowder pan, and the other half of it was poured into the muzzle. My hand reached out on the inventory screen again and brought out the round ball and inserted it into the muzzle. And again, my hand grabbed the ramrod from the inventory and pushed it inside the muzzle.

"It really took a whole 3 minutes just to reload!" I complained, "Well, let's try it on the target."

My hand moved on its own and aimed at the two-horned rabbit. And I pulled the trigger.

*Bang*

As soon as I fired, a lot of smoke emerged from the musket and a loud sound resonated on the field.
