Adeline’s POV
I don’t realize I have my eyes squeezed shut until I hear the collective gasp behind me, and my eyes snap open to see the verdict. My heart is pounding in my chest, and my hands are clammy, which I hope Zale overlooks as he holds onto my right hand tightly.
The first thing I see when I open my eyes is Leona looking at me. Her features are screaming sadness and defeat, and it is at that moment that I realize the Moon Goddess’s light is shining down on me and not her. The relief that runs through my veins at the sight is overwhelming, but it’s welcomed because it means the plan worked.
I turn to Zale, and he appears to be just as relieved as I am. His green eyes sparkle under the light shining down from the moon, and his features are relaxed and happy, with the smile on his face reaching my eyes.
