Chapter 14 - Chapter 12: The First Step

The sun rose on a new day, and the golden hue of vibrant rays shined through Andrew's window, illuminating the room.

Andrew could be seen lying on his bed staring at the ceiling of his room as his mind swirled with thoughts about awakening and plans for the future.

He had successfully awakened, and now his biggest priority was preventing the dungeon collapse and protecting his family.

However, he was no fool. Andrew knew that this was a near-impossible task. Even if he was more experienced how much could one Blessed do, especially a low ranking one? Life wasn't a fanciful story where he could defy understanding, this game he was trying to play had rules and he knew his limits.

Before that he needed weapons. While his father's hunting rifle had served him well, it wasn't going to last nor was it dependable in the highly volatile and dangerous environment of a dungeon.

Official weapons that were suitable for combat within a dungeon were hard to acquire. Most were regulated by the government, and those that weren't could only be found in high-profile international auctions.

The best bet that Andrew had in finding a suitable weapon was through the black market. The only issue was that access to the Black Market was strictly controlled.

The only way one could enter the black market was through prior knowledge of its accessible location, such information was closely guarded to prevent any leaks to authorities, and currently, Andrew didn't know much about the black market at this time.

The only place that he knew had a connection to the black market was not even in Alaska, it would take up time to get there. Not to mention the time needed to gather the necessary funds and items to trade there as well.

Time.

He never had enough of it, he couldn't afford it, and he couldn't control it.

The more he thought about everything the more frustrated he got, as an uncomfortable feeling began to continuously build up in him. If he tried to tackle a dungeon now, even a low ranking one his chances of survival were low.

While a "Blessed" body is strengthened, they were not invincible. His current target was an E to D rank dungeon, one that he currently had little confidence to take on if he had to enter by himself with just his body as both offense and defense.

Frustrated Andrew decided to take a walk towards town to clear his head.

Walking along a path on a lonesome street, Andrew's figure could be seen slowly treading across.

He walked he passed a fellow pedestrian walking in the opposite direction, a male of a rather built stature with blue eyes and a grey scarf. Unknowingly he thought about the skills he had gained and if there were any probable ways he could make use of them to survive.

His mind went to the skill that had left the most impact on him. His ability to perceive "fate" confused him greatly. An ability he never had access to nor heard of in his past was currently in his possession. Thinking these through his eyes momentarily flashed an unnoticeable golden yellow hue, before he heard a familiar sound.

Immediately the scene around him changed as he suddenly moved off from the streets to a home of some sort. The wooden flooring and white walls felt cool to the touch as he explored the house.

In a bedroom, a soft giggle and whine could be heard. In the room itself, toys could be seen to be strewn about, as the soft glow of the setting sun had settles over a crib. Andrew looked around finding a baby in a crib giggling and whining at the same time. Observing the crib, he found the name Jason inscribed on the side.

The baby giggled as it gazed at Andrew its blue eyes shining through, it lifted its tiny hands up as if trying to grab something. Andrew carefully put his index finger forward as the baby wrapped its tiny hands around his finger.

The scene changed once more, Andrew now found himself outside behind what seemed to be a suburban house. A child ran through the garden pulling along a kite as a woman that appeared to be his mother called out to him.

"Jason, Jason, don't run too far"

The scene changed one final time this time Andrew found himself standing in front of the same home however the house had aged. Its paint seemed to have rubbed off and worn itself over the years.

Walking into the house Andrew sees a now adult Jason, his face now unkempt, worn down by something, standing there in the living room by himself drinking. All while looking at a picture of a woman, and tightly gripping a grey scarf in his other hand.

Andrew finally realized what was happening as his mind connected the dots and why this was happening Jason was the same man that he has Andrew drew closer he recognized the woman as the mother.

All of a sudden a howl in the stance could be heard. Followed by low guttural growls that seemed to echo throughout the home.

Peeking outside the window from the living room, Andrew found nothing but darkness.

Suddenly a red light appeared deep in the darkness. In the next moment, another appeared.

Surprise and Fear.

That was all Andrew felt, as countless red eyes lit up the dark.

The monsters had come.

As Andrew turned around and looked back at the figure of Jason drinking, a shadow in the corner of the room began to wriggle.

Before Andrew could react, the shadow moved and darted out. A figure blurred by darkness hidden in plain sight, unable to be seen and understood flew towards

Jason.

The creature tore through Jason's throat. All that could be heard was a gurgling of Jason drowning in his own blood and the crunching sounds of the monster devouring the body.

The vision shattered, as the scene ended.

Andrew awoke from his vision, the gold fading from his eyes, as he stood still on the sidewalk while the rain poured.

He understood.

He knew.

Past, present, and future.

He could see fate.

He could change fate.

He had an advantage no one else had, he could do it.

Even without it, with this he could, no, he would survive.

No more hesitating.

No more running.

No more fear.

It was time for him to take the first step.

The first step towards a new era.
