The words he had spoken that day replayed in my mind. After pondering, I said, "This Xavier must have already met with Jacob's people. Perhaps he refused their terms and escaped, leading to the scene we witnessed."
"A bit smart, but not much," Anton succinctly assessed.
Even without knowing what was written on the card, we could guess. Xavier wouldn't be here without being guided by the card, likely from Jacob's people.
While we spoke, a cowboy approached Xavier, grabbing his arm and pointing in a direction, seemingly trying to lead him away. But Xavier resisted, frowning in refusal.
However, just moments later, the cowboy's expression turned serious, and he led Xavier away in a strange posture.
I sat up abruptly, fixating on the two.
"Something's happening, Anton."
