Chapter 77 - The Coroner's Words

[Ellie's P.O.V.]

I sat in front of Edith's tombstone and remembered the story she had always told to put me to sleep. She might be right next to me, but I knew that she was disappearing further and further away.

Panse stood the whole time, his eyes fixed on Edith's grave. He didn't say a single word. He too, was akin to a corpse.

He still remembered when Edith's body was sent to the coroner. The coroner examined it for a long time and finally said with a sad expression, "This is really sad. She died of organ failure caused by the faded relationship between her and her mate. She would have been perfectly healthy otherwise."

When Panse heard the coroner's words, he almost cried.

If it wasn't for the coroner, he could have assumed Edith's death to be due to her old age and weak body. The coroner's words then were basically sentencing him as guilty, calling him Edith's murderer. He could not escape from this guilt and had to bear the full sin.
