But halfway there, Anton called me, "Ellie, come back for now, don't go to Newman's place yet. Kirk is here."
According to the plan, Anton should have been at Newman's place right now, but from the way he spoke, it seemed like he was at the estate.
I hadn't contacted Kirk for a long time, and with the recent surge in the issue of the mutant werewolves, I was too busy to think about why he might be here now.
"Is something wrong?" I asked with a hint of confusion, turning the steering wheel to head back immediately.
"You'll find out when you get back," Anton replied.
With a sigh, I hung up the phone and turned the car around. I decided to postpone the matter of the drugs for now, hoping that Newman would be proactive about making the antidote.
When I entered the living room, Anton and Kirk were in a tense silence, while Rowling and Abby sat beside them. The atmosphere was heavy with unspoken tension.
