Amber was gazing out the window of her nook thinking about something deeply when her door creaked open catching her attention.
Amber's purple eyes slowly looked over to see who was standing there. A sigh escaped her lips when she saw a person that had similar features to hers.
"Leo..?" She drawled out his name slowly wondering why he was here and what he needed since her little brother no longer acted how he used to.
'Leo has changed since our brothers death he no longer acts adorable and clingy instead he is cold and detached as if a part of his soul left him when our brother died'
I sighed inwardly while thinking about how much Leo has changed since Zachary's death, knowing it must have impacted him greatly.
"Amber, have you found anything?" Leo questioned me with his cold purple eyes that no longer held any warmth in them appearing as soulless amethysts that one couldn't see light in anymore.
"How do you know about this?" I queried wondering how my brother found out about this when I told no one. But as I was thinking about this a pair of Shining Ruby eyes popped into my mind.
"Shawn.." I said more as a fact than a question resulting in Leo nodding then I continued "No I haven't found anything peculiar yet and when I do I will let you know"
After I finished my sentence Leo nodded at me, before he left he gazed at me for a bit before leaving but I saw something indescribable in his amethyst eyes before he left.
"What happened to you, Leo? You used to be so happy and full of life now all I can see is coldness and sadness in your eyes as if you're afraid to lose more yet want to detach yourself so you can never feel the same pain again.'
I sighed inwardly comparing this Leo to the past Leo missing my brother's childless that brightened everyone's day and now only an empty shell was left.
'I promise to stay by your side Leo and make you show the side of my little lion again. I want to see your smile and sparkling eyes again' I thought, vowing to myself to bring back the old Leo.
The day after Zachary's death
'I can't believe he is gone, my only brother. Why couldn't you take me instead?' thought a young man with his purple eyes becoming clouded by grief.
"Amber" I muttered out remembering the look on her face how soulless she looked and I never thought she would be the same again.
'But she changed again it's like she is back to her self but it seems more as though it's all an act.' I thought to myself missing how my family used to be and mostly my big brother.
Tears started blur the mans vision as he thought about his family never being the same again. His lips started to tremble before he steeled his gaze, clenching his fists and locking his jaw in resolve.
"No, I have to be strong for everyone and protect them all…" The man said 'But I don't want to get hurt again by another loss or something happening to them' Thought the man as he knew what he had to do.
He had to become cold and detached so he won't be hurt again if something bad happens but he knows he will never be able to fully cut everyone off especially when the sparkling eyes of his little sister appeared in his head.
The man started to walk to his little sisters room to see if she was asleep. When he saw she was sleeping soundly he walked into her room and kneeled beside her bed.
"Little Amb i'm sorry but I will have to be cold to you from now on. But I will always protect you. Please don't hate me. I love you and always will I just…" Leo stopped his sentence beofre finishing the words in his head that he couldn't say out loud.
'Can't bare the pain again of losing someone I love it hurts too much.' The man though again feeling his heart hurt as tears gathered in his eyes at the thought of that soul crushing pain happening to him again if he didn't distance himself.
"Sorry" Whispered the man giving the girl with her midnight colored hair scattered on the bed a kiss on the forehead while a tear fell off his cheek cascading down her own as if it was her tear instead of his.
The man quietly walked out of the room shutting the door carefully as not to wake the girl residing in there. The tapping of his shoes could be heard fading away in the hall against the tiled floor echoing just like the soft sobs coming from his mouth.
That night the man became a shell letting go of all his emotions so he can protect the ones he loves and if he fails he won't feel the heartbreak of losing them… again.
A/N: We need something happy so here some much needed adorableness
*Memories*
"Big brother Zaky?" A little girl said looking up at a man that was at his desk studying while she was on the leather sofa reading a book. The man looked up his purple eyes showing a soft look before he asked.
"Little Amb?" He questioned back at her which resulted in the little girl jumping off the sofa and running around the desk to where his chair was, making the man look down at her.
The little girl raised her arms up in the air. The man smiled lifting her up after he moved the papers on his desk aside so he could put her there since she would always wind up there, anyways.
The girl hugged his neck saying a tiny thank you before pointing at his desk resulting the man letting out a chuckle that sounded deep and husky.
'I knew she was going to end up there at some point she loves sitting there when talking to me and standing up to try and be taller.'
The man thought trying to hold back his smile when the girl stood up and put her hands on her hips like she was the boss.
'Hehe i'm looking down on everyone now' Thought the little girl before she cleared her throat and looked down at her brother getting his attention solely focused on her so she could speak without interruptions.
"Zachary…" Said the girl becoming serious
'Oh, shes being serious now.' Thought the man when she used his first name instead of the nickname she gave him, nodding at her, letting her know she had his full attention and was listening.
"I want to own a business" Amber declared in a tone that sounded professional. Her eyes looked at Zachary's eyes waiting for his answer.
"What business?" He said curious to what his little sisters answer will be.
"I want to own an Animal Shelter" Zachary lifted one of his thick dark brows while thinking 'So she wants to play with animals'
A smile came out of his lips but that smile left when Amber glared at him saying in a stern tone.
"I don't want to play with animals at this place I want to help them. This will be my first business and not last…"
Amber paused looking at her brother to make sure she still had his attention before continuing.
"..I can't get hurt here since it's not a business that will have me deal with others that could deceive me.
I just need staff and a building for the animals then I can settle it from there. I Las o have a business plan set up along with my Mission Statement"
"You thought this through. I have no doubt that you will be a great business woman and look forward to see what this will become I have faith in you Amber."
When Amber heard his approval her eyes shined accompanied by her huge smile that showed her white teeth and 2 crater like dimples. Amber then jumped off the desk into her brothers arms.
'Good thing i'm used to it now. Reckless little Amb' Thought Zachary as his eyes stared tenderly at the girl before growing and pretending to be mad.
"What did I say about jumping off my desk Amber?"
"What did you say about it?" said the girl feighning ignorance like she never heard him say it.
'Even if I do get hurt one which won't ever happen I will still do it' thought the girl with a pout at being scolded.
Zachary just silently looked at his little sister not believing her bullshit. She glared at him making the man let her go before she jumped off the chair stomping towards the door.
"Amb-"
"No!" The girl yelled interrupting him before continuing "I am going to go play with my little lion at least he's nicer to me." Said the little girl with a pout as she harumphed at her elder brother.
"Pfft" The man burst out laughing when he saw her acting this way. He got out of his chair and walked up to Amber picking her up.
The little girl got mad trying to squirm but it was useless as the man just held her closer to him preventing her from moving.
"You can't go play with him now" Zachary said to Amber with an evil smirk plastered on his face.
The little girl gave up and looked up into her elder brother's eyes glaring at him. The glare didn't affect the man, it only made him hug her tighter.
"I thought you wanted to go pick out the place for you're business but I guess if you want to play with Leo more you can'' The man said looking at Amber trying to hide his smile.
The little girl pouted and looked at him telling him in a soft "yes" to take her to find a building.
Zachary hid his smile but the smugness he had couldn't be hid in the depths of the pool of his mesmerizing purple eyes shining with mirth.
'Hehe I can have doggies now~' thought the little girl with her amethyst eyes shining in unbridled happiness.
The man looked down at the girl, his eyes gazing tenderly showing the love he held for her in the deep pools of his purple eyes.
'I hope you can be happy forever little Amb you deserve it and as your big brother it's my job to always make you happy even if it means sacrificing myself'
The man thought silently but hoped that day would never have to come that he would sacrifice himself and leave her alone. The pair walked out of his study both excited and hoping this excitement would never end but like all things it will Die off.
