Hey, he had a decent cultivation level but he seemed to average as a student within his five years' in the sect…
"Yo-Your Royal Highness! I thank you for serving this commoner's life!" Kamealoha said as he tottered toward her.
His mind was in awe before the ephemeral figure before him, her majestic sight gazing upon this weak cultivator he was, her mount a feathered throne sitting upon a gilded corpse.
Lyshisha gave him a small smile. "You're welcome, buddy. And please do away with these 'this commoner' and shit. You can call me by my name, I won't mind. We're sect mates, so we ought to help each other, right?"
Kamealoha awkwardly chuckled. "If everyone thought like you, many folks would be swimming in shallow waters instead of sinking within an ocean…" he trailed. "But I've never seen you before in the sect, so how—"
"There was the annual admission yesterday, don't you remember?" she interrupted with a raised brow.
He blinked. "Sh*t! That's true. I've been outside the sect for a few days, now, so I completely forgot about that…"
The young queen looked ahead. "All right, buddy, I've got things to do, so how about you recover your wounds and mana while I stand guard for you? Then we'll part ways and hopefully meet back at the sect, OK?"
He paled at that notion. His thinly webbed hands clutching his wounded chest, he said, "I thank you for your kindness, but may I ask Your Royal Highness why you're here? I ask so because I was here gathering ores for my studies, since I want to be an ore researcher. If you're looking for something, who knows, I might be of help due to my knowledge…"
Lyshisha inwardly smiled.
How could she not see what he meant? Although his geological knowledge could provide some food for thought against her very superficial understanding of it—acting as support to her botanical erudition—she had to accomplish this mission on her own, and she said so to him.
He was startled at first, then relieved. "If that is so, who says that I will personally help you take your ingredients? No, just like you proposed earlier, I would stand guard for you while you grab the ingredients, and you'll do the same as I'll gather my ores as well. You seemingly value my insights, which I'll share along the journey, so your mission conditions would still be maintained while you'll be expanding your geological knowledge, so what do you say?"
The young woman mused about it.
What he said made sense, so why would she reject it?
Even though she'll probably be the vanguard against the bigger foes—seemingly aplenty here—traveling with someone else will reduce the boredom and give her someone to talk to, so she relented.
"You go recover now. We'll have to bounce soon, since this corpse will attract many unwanted beasts around…" she said.
"Thank you, Your Royal Highness," he said, then sat cross-legged as he produced a red pill that he swallowed.
His eyes tightly shut, as he meditated his outline glowed, frantically gathering mana from heavens and earth while his injuries closed…
*
Two hours went by when the worst of his injuries were healed. "Thank you again, Your Royal Highness, but it seems that I've already brought us trouble despite my efforts of recovering as fast as possible…" he said in a contrite manner as the cries and snarls of a few monsters sounded nearby.
She shook her head. "It's okay. They won't be causing any more trouble soon enough. I'll handle it. Matter of fact, don't use any mana and focus on recovering your mana pool and superficial injuries while we'll move forward, understood?"
She didn't wait for his answer and summoned a litany of matter spears to swiftly kill their worthless foes.
"Now, let's go before we get in larger trouble. This tiger's becoming smelly, so hop on behind me," she said, jerking her manicured thumb behind her.
He quickly nodded and did as told.
Once his hands hugged the sides of her toned chest, he said, "Your Royal Highness, I've got an ore to excavate not far from here, so could we go there?"
She shrugged. "Sure, lead the way," she replied.
They galloped away from the mud clearing, and a few minutes later, arrived inside a small glade where a rocky gray cavern huddled above a mini dell. "There!" The merman said, then jumped off the Impundulu and ran with an excited look towards the sides of the cavern, producing a complicated device that he abutted next to the yellow-browning rocks that pocked the natural edifice. The device then began to make some loudly ministrations to extract it.
"Stay put, girl," Lyshisha said as she followed him, attracted instead by what lied inside the cave.
Even though she didn't enter, she faintly detected a similar energy to the tiger she recently killed. "So what will happen to the cubs?" she screamed above the contraption's peals.
"With their mother dead, they'll soon follow her in the abyss unfortunately by the forest dwellers," he replied, which made her frown.
Entering the cavern, she eventually found a female grey cub, looking like a smaller version of her, and a pink male one, standing before a small pool of underground water, their mien apprehensive.
A few bones of smaller critters lay behind them while a patchwork of multi-colored furs torn from unidentified predators made for a large rug able to house a tiger and its cubs stood even further back.
They were so cute, so how could she let them die like this.
Since it came to this—especially when she killed their mother—, why couldn't she adopt them?
Their plight reminding her of her comatose sister, she pulled a chocolate snack to feed them.
Wary before the food, the male sniffed the snack for a while before he ate it, despite his sister warning snarls.
How caring was she…
But eventually, they warmed up to her as she produced more of it, and after some tender loving care where they licked her fingers, she sent a wave of mana over them to soothe them.
They finally allowed her to caress them, purring lovingly within the creases of her dainty hands.
She wanted to reveal what she would provide for them.
To that end, her Moon Core pulsed slightly, and with a single gaze, she sent them images of her feeding her great food, and sleeping on very comfortable beds far better than the crappy fur carpet their mother made for her and her children.
The duo saw her helping them get stronger than their mother ever was, fighting enemies alongside each other, the three of them riding freely under the sunset, their furs snuggled by a nippy evening squall as twilight arrived…
As she left the cavern, two small cubs followed her.
To new friends and her ingredient next!
