The stain glass ceiling rained down on us, a piece of glass cut into my skin, under my right eye. Some moron had shot it. Now the alarm was triggered.
"Who did that? Who shot the gun?" I turn to ask them.
Four out of the five men my father gave me for this mission point at the last man. I take one look at him, the man that had jeopardized the mission. A mission that I had looked forward to for days, I stayed up all night planning this, and he ruined it?
"How dare you?" My voice is low as I growl at him.
He whimpered, visibly shaking in his place.
"I.. I thought I saw something." He sounded like he was going to cry.
I covered the five feet distance between us in mere seconds. He whimpered this time, he knew he had made a mistake that was going to cost his life. My hand circled around his neck in a death grip, his eyes bulged as he struggled to breathe, it was hard obviously. I could tell he was weak, he wouldn't last more than two minutes under my grip, he was Delta after all. He didn't have half the strength it took to fight me, or even resist. He could only stand there, flailing his arms in the air as he struggled, hoping I'd somehow show mercy. As if.
"Have mercy on him please, the humans are on their way, we don't want to take emergency control measures." The boldest of the men spoke.
I don't say anything, I squeeze even harder, clamping down on his throat. The anger I felt hadn't dissipated from me yet.
"M, please. The humans will see his lifeless body, what do we do then?" Another spoke.
"We still have time, we can still get it and run back out, we are wasting time just standing here doing nothing."
By that he meant, I was wasting time because I was not good enough, and I wanted to blame it on someone else. My grip on the Delta released.
"Search the place, we must find it. Although it would be extremely easy to find. You can't miss it." I barked the orders at them.
They gave me a swift bow before scrambling away. Bunch of weaklings. If only my father let me pick my own men. I had planned this for too long for it to go wrong, and then he went ahead to pick out the men I would be taking, I hated that, but he explained it was necessary, he picked out men that would tell the others that I was good enough. Men that weren't on my side, men who wanted me to fail, he said it would be a good way to prove myself to them without even trying. The man was as sly as a fox.
From the time I got the news that they were shipping it from Rome to America I knew I had to get it. I needed it, and I was going to get it. Unfortunately during the transportation to America the security was tight, embarrassingly too tight for an Alpha like myself. Humans had learnt how to up their security over the years and I underestimated them. Plus they kept it under wraps for months, no one knew where it was kept. I searched every where, I almost went mad searching for it. That's when the rumors about me spread even further, people were starting to disbelieve in me. Crescent moon pack started to get rogue attacks. It was maddening.
But the minute I laid my hands on it, everything will go back to normal. Peace will return to Crescent moon pack. And I will be the one to do it.
When I heard they brought it to this museum for bidding I knew it was my last chance to get it. And I would get it.
"We have problem M."
No. No. No. I didn't want to hear the word problem.
"What is it?" I growl impatiently.
The man who I smelled to be an Omega, shifted on his feet. He didn't want to be the bearer of bad news.
I gritted my teeth. I had come too far to slow down.
"Spit it out."
"It is gone."
My eyes widen.
"What do you mean?"
"M, we have to leave now. The humans are on their way. I doubt we can slow the time any more than we already have."
"No, no, no, we can't leave without it, we came here for it. We shouldn't leave without it."
I argue as I continue to search for it, it can't be gone. It's my solution. My only solution, it couldn't be gone just like that. I know it was here, I confirmed it myself. The bidding is scheduled for next week. So it should still be in it's place, waiting for me.
"M, if we don't want a fight with the humans, we have to leave now. Re-group and come back later."
I felt my stomach drop.
"This is all your fault, if you didn't make such a stupid mistake, we would have enough time to search for it. You'll pay for this." My eyes promised the Delta death as I climb out of the window we had come through.
They followed after me as we ran into the thick forest. I stop just when I was sure they wouldn't be able to spot us.
Facing the Delta, I crossed the distance between us just I did before.
"I can explain." He says quickly.
"I think I saw someone take it, that was why I shot." He says quickly.
My brows crease.
"What do you mean?"
He looked relieved by the fact he just bought himself a few more minutes.
"I saw a human climb out of the roof, with something in his hand, so I shot at him."
"It is true that it was taken out of its place forcefully. It would make sense that a thief stole it."
Rage bubbled underneath my skin. How dare a human want it? Something I had worked so hard for, and a human snatched it from under my nose?
"Why didn't you say something then?" I growl.
"You didn't give me a chance to."
I feel a head ache forming.
"Search the area, he couldn't have gotten far, let's hope he got hit by the bullet. Call for back up. We are going human hunting."
