Chapter 57 - Chapter 57: Horn

"Well, if a magical horn was anywhere in this wasteland, then I'd have to assume it'd be in there." May and I then moved behind each tree when none of the yetis were looking, and we were soon behind another boulder that was against the rock wall of the mountain. The boulder was next to the statues on the entryway, yet was too far to reach without being spotted. I thought for a moment about how we would get inside when the yetis were constantly walking in and out of the entrance.

May then started to look around and stopped as she saw something above us. "Look up there, that may be another way in." I followed her line of sight to see some gaps big enough to fit through in the stone above the engravings of the temple. It was high up and still within the sight of the yetis, yet they would be stalled enough for us to get in before we were caught. They would also be unable to follow us through the holes if they saw us so I started to climb.

"Try not to be seen as long as possible." May climbed up the wall after me and we slowly made our way to the peak of the mountain. Luckily, nothing spotted us before we reached the gaps and I quickly slipped through the nearest one. May came in as well, and I worked my way through the rock formations that were inside.

After a few minutes, I fell down into a chamber and landed on my feet. I stood up fully and turned to see what was inside. I was standing in a room entirely made from stone, with no openings to the outside other than the ones above me. Fortunately, there wasn't anything in the chamber with me and there was a doorway I was standing beside. There were stairs leading down into another opening through it and I could see my breath from the chill around me. The stairs outside the door led to the main room of the temple where I could hear the yetis moving around.

May then tumbled to the floor next to me and sat up as soon as she fell. "Look, there it is." I turned to see the horn we were looking for on a pedestal across from the doorway near the back of the room. The horn was gray and smaller than I expected. It was also made from an actual horn yet was engraved and hollow like an instrument. I quickly approached the horn and took it from the pedestal. "Great, let's get out of here."

Suddenly, a loud roar came from the stairway and a yeti came running in. It charged at me in rage and I jumped out of the way before it could crush me. Its fist cracked the wall I used to be standing in front of, and before I could think of what to do next my instincts told me to blow the horn. I raised it to my mouth quickly as the yeti removed his fist from the wall, and I blew into it with all the air I had in my lungs.

As soon as I did, a massive storm came out of the other side. Huge storm clouds, tornados, blizzards, rain, and lightning shot out and toward the yeti. Immediately, the wall the storm was directed at smashed into pieces, and the yeti was cast out to the other side and rolled all the way down the mountain. The chaos disappeared as soon as I removed the horn from my lips, and I looked at it in my hand with surprise. "Wow."

In the next second, I heard more roars coming from down the stairway and I looked to the hole in the wall. The mountain was steep, but the snow looked compact enough to slide down. I then grabbed May's arm as she hurried over to me and took her with me as I jumped out of the chamber. "What are you-?! Ahhhh!!" The yetis that came up the stairs didn't follow us down the mountain, and I landed on my back and immediately started sliding down with May next to me.

We both screamed as we slid at high speed and just like I expected, my armor made me slide with ease. May started to fall behind as more snow pulled her back because of her less slick clothing. I then tightened my grip on her arm and pulled her on top of me. "What are-?!" I yelled before she could question further. "Shut up and steer me!" She gave me a surprised look for a second and then managed to sit up on my chest and turn around to look ahead.

I tried my best to stay as stiff as possible as May leaned us out of the way of any obstacles all the distance down the slopes. "This is weird!" May exclaimed as she turned us away from a bumpier path. I continued not to move as I responded. "I know!" May then spun her head to look back at me and laughed. "And you say I'm the one with the crazy ideas? Hahaha!" I laughed a little in response but we went over a bump a moment after and my head swung back into the ground behind me. "Ow."

We both then looked ahead to the sight of a large snow bank at the bottom of the mountain. We screamed and there was nowhere to turn as clusters of pine trees were around the sides of it. We suddenly crashed, both of us smashing deep into the side of the pile. "AH-!!" After a moment, I managed to climb out of the snow and pull myself to sit on the top of the bank. May popped out from the snow as well and hugged herself from the cold. "I'd call that a good landing."

We looked at each other and then started to laugh. "Now, that was fun," I said as I climbed down the pile. May followed me and landed on her feet beside me. "We completed another trial! We make the best team!" I hesitated on answering her but before I could, Saniel appeared from out of the distance and was headed towards us. May waved to him happily and I suddenly felt the condition my body was in.

I realized that I couldn't stop shaking from head to toe and couldn't feel anything but pins and needles throughout my entire body. I could barely move without feeling like my blood had become a smoothie inside me, but I chose to hide it as Saniel landed next to us. We got onto his back again and left that place as fast as we could with the horn in hand.

Once we landed back in the warm forest, May and I made camp for the night among the regular trees and grass and May removed all of her knitted bundle. Theodius hadn't come yet even past nightfall which I found odd, but I gave the horn to May for safekeeping until he showed up again. For some reason, even after having a warm dinner and sitting by the fire all night, I couldn't stop shivering. I could sense May's worry but I laid down to go to sleep before she could mention it. 'I'll be fine tomorrow.' I thought.
