Chapter 37 - Chapter 37 Mount Vermont, 44° 9′ 36″ N, 72° 55′ 44″ W Professor Yang’s Cabin

Four people surrounded the Star Vision. Cecilia, Akiko, Professor Yang, and Willy Booth. Andalas was not there. He was on a flight to Hong Kong the day before they went to Professor Yang's cabin on Vermont mountains.

Willy had installed a program in the device. He inserted the chip into a chip reader that was connected to Star Vision. There was a soft buzzing sound. The screen showed matrix code scrolling down fast. The screen paused for a moment before scrolling downwards again faster.

Willy Booth was propping his chin and staring at the screen. Anything from extraterrestrial origin always made him curious. So did Professor Yang. He did a research on how stellar physics not only able to calculate distance and time but also detected any signs of life through vectors captured by giant telescopes. Professor Yang wondered if there was new information on the existence of another universe that could be unveiled.

The monitor screen stopped scrolling. The matrix code also disappeared. The screen went off for several seconds then with two beeps it came back on.

A series of letters or symbols appeared.

They looked like hieroglyphic letters but more complex. Willy typed some commands on the keyboard. The strange letters morphed into the alphabet. Everyone waited anxiously.

1850. We have conducted numerous experiments on earth creatures. We selected the most potent virus on earth and injected the virus into their body after we exposed the object's body to cosmic ray and with gamma ray radiation.

Our real goal is to strengthen the immunity of the earth creatures' body so they are not susceptible to disease. We estimate that their immunity is at 2 from the scale of 1 to 10. We have monitored the number of epidemics and pandemics that resulted in large numbers of deaths in previous centuries.

We want to encourage the continuity of life on earth to maintain the balance of its ecosystem. A healthy population will be able to take care of earth because surely the people do not want to lose their only home.

Earthling technology is still far from enabling them to find inhabitable planet other than earth. In our calculations, such knowledge and technology will only be achieved in about 300 years.

Earth's imbalance will greatly affect the existence of our planet which lacks natural resources. If the earth is wrecked and its elements are in disorder, it is possible that it will deteriorate.

A damaged planet will cause its rotation to change. A change in rotation will cause the orbit to deviate. A planet with deviated orbit will disrupt the galaxy's orbital sequence. If there is disturbance in the Milky Way where Earth is located, it will certainly affect the orbital sequence of the neighboring galaxy such as ours.

Facing this dangerous possibility, our Supreme Council decided to help the creatures of the earth. It is imperative that humans are not susceptible to disease, so they will be able to take good care of the earth.

But our experiment ended with a catastrophic failure. Human chromosomes reacted adversely to the radiation procedures which caused irreparable damage.

The experiment was terminated. We only managed to keep the object alive by cryonic preservation. Under the processes, the virus in her body will remain alive but will not endangering her life if the cryonic process is not stopped. We've sacrificed too many objects for this experiment.

The Supreme Council still allow us to resume the experiment with a condition that the object must not die like in the previous centuries.

Since we use the strongest and most dangerous virus for the experiment, in order to follow the Supreme Council's instructions and to contain the virus, we use the cryonic procedure on the host and store it under the thick layer of ice in the Arctic. We didn't choose the South Pole because it has minerals and precious elements that will be exploited. We predict that earthling will act excessively in exploiting those mineral and elements.

We chose the North Pole because earthlings have lived and roamed the area since millennia. That would certainly make them think twice before destroying it. After all, the South Pole is a no-man's-land area.

We are confident that no one will find the object. But if by any chance someone stumble upon it, we ask whoever finds it to destroy the object immediately.

Our object is lethal to earthling. But at the same time, it is instrumental to fight a pandemic should the virus in her body accidently or intentionally released. Should an infection occur, they will find that the cure is within the object itself. All they must do is analyze the traces of cosmic and gamma radiation in the objects' bodies to develop drugs against these viruses.

Our last note, this virus has extremely high mutation rate. Although there may be earthling who has natural immunity against the virus, with its high mutation rate, the chances of being infected again are still high.

The screen stopped translating the rest of the scripts on the chip. Soon the screen went dark.

There was very strange smell coming from Star Vision. Everyone grabbed their anti radiation masks immediately. The professor had anticipated the possibility of radiation after inspecting the chip before.

Professor Yang reached and turned a Geiger-Muller Counter on. A distinct clicking sound was heard alerting everyone about the presence of radiation. The counter detected the present of gamma radiation and an unknown element.

Professor Yang thought the unknown element could be the cosmic ray radiation mentioned in the script. Fortunately, the radiation level was low. The chip was too small to emit harmful radiation level.

Everyone headed to the veranda in silent. They were dumbfounded by the content of the script. So, Object X was a test object. The experiment was so destructive and could have caused a large number of death because there was no cure for the virus.

The script did give clues on how to develop a cure, but no one on earth knew how to break down the cosmic and gamma elements in Object X's body.

This is insane!
