Chapter 9 - He's A Jerk

Xiao Jiashu had never tried chocolate because of his family's condition. Xiao Jiashu's eyes brightened as he saw the chocolate that Zhao Xier took out, and he instantly forgot his fear of Zhao Xier.

Zhao Xier was ecstatic when she noticed Xiao Jiashu glancing at the chocolate in her palm. She took the chocolate and was going to hand it to Xiao Jiashu when someone appeared behind her. At the same moment, the utility system issued a punishment warning.

Zhao Xier abruptly raised her head and caught Xiao Mohan's harsh gaze. She grimaced and looked down at Xiao Jiashu's enquiring eyes. For a moment, the air was deafeningly quiet.

Xiao Jiashu had not noticed Xiao Mohan. His gaze was drawn to the chocolate in Zhao Xier's hand. He assumed Zhao Xier had indicated the chocolate was for him and raised his hand to accept it. Zhao Xier, who was still smiling at the time, darkened her face and retained the chocolate.

For a brief moment, Xiao Jiashu was stunned. He blinked his large eyes and glanced at Zhao Xier, perplexed. He did not give it much thought, though. To get the chocolate, he stood on his tiptoes. Zhao Xier unexpectedly raised her arm and tossed the chocolate into the air. She gave him an ugly grin. For a little while, Xiao Jiashu was dazed. At that point, no matter how sluggish he was, he understood Zhao Xier had duped him! The tip of his nose felt unpleasant, and he yelled angrily. His voice was much more heartbreaking than it had been.

When Xiao Jiashu began to cry, Xiao Mohan rushed over and wrapped his arms around him to console him. Xiao Jiashu's body twitched. He felt even more resentful with his brother present.

Xiao Mohan comforted his brother's head in a quiet voice while glaring coldly at Zhao Xier. Her gaze locked on his. She expected Xiao Mohan to be angry and scold her, but he did not do that. He merely gave her a cold stare before lowering his eyes to hide his emotions.

Outside, the sun was shining brightly, and its rays shone through the foliage. Xiao Mohan stood in the light, filled with indescribable tranquility.

After a while, Xiao Jiashu's sobbing subsided, and Xiao Mohan took him back to their home. When he left, he did not even look at Zhao Xier.

Zhao Xier went absolutely unnoticed. She did not know why, but she was incredibly irritated. What the hell was going on?

After Xiao Jiashu arrived home, his previously placated mood began to deteriorate. He could not stop crying as he remembered Zhao Xier's taunting of him. "Big brother, he lied to me. He is a jerk! He is a bully."

Xiao Mohan's face reddened as his brother sobbed and complained. He knelt and wiped Xiao Jiashu's tears. His movements were kind, but his eyes were icy. "Yes, he is a jerk. Let's keep a safe distance from him." Zhao Xier was a truly evil individual.

Yang Guiying was in the backyard, collecting veggies. Zhao Xier mentioned yesterday that she wanted to eat steamed buns. She assumed she had to go to school the next day, so she baked steamed buns for her. However, she heard a boom halfway through plucking the vegetables. It was the sound of a heavy door slamming.

Zhao Xier's mother died during childbirth. Zhao Xier was considered a premature infant with a frail body. Every two or three days, she had to take medication. A fortune-teller read her fortune and claimed she had a strong aura in her body. To control her aura, she had to be raised as a guy. Typically, no one would trust such words, but that individual was a well-known fortune-teller in the capital, and his predictions were highly accurate. Yang Guiying and the others had intended to make a last-ditch attempt, but they did not anticipate Zhao Xier's health to improve after following the master's directions. As a result, Zhao Xier was brought up as a boy until she was 17 years old.

Perhaps the Zhao family felt they owed Zhao Xier because they had to raise him as a boy, so they spoiled her. Furthermore, Zhao Xier's father worked all year and was not at home, leaving him with little time to care for Zhao Xier. When the adults regained consciousness about their decision, Zhao Xier had already formed a dominant demeanor that was difficult to modify. Zhao Xier's father was concerned about her mother, Yang Guiying, living alone when the Zhao family's patriarch died, so he asked Zhao Xier to accompany Yang Guiying.

Yang Guiying could tell Zhao Xier was enraged since the door slammed. She hurriedly set the vegetables down, wiped her hands on her apron, and walked in from the backyard. "What is the matter? Who set you off? Please inform me."
