Chapter 3 - Electric Shock Warning

Xiao Mohan had already noticed Zhao Xier standing at the courtyard's entrance. He came to a halt as he spotted Zhao Xier approaching. When she saw Xiao Mohan come to a halt, she came to a halt as well. "May I ask who you were?" she asked, following his line of gaze.

Zhao Xier introduced herself briefly. "Yang Guiying is my grandmother."

"Ah, Auntie Yang's grandchild. Hello, my name is Ye Zhen," the woman's lips curved into a soft grin. "These are my two sons. The elder boy is Xiao Mohan, and the younger boy is Xiao Jiashu.

"There is no need to introduce me. I am not interested in learning who you are." Zhao Xier responded with a frown. She had a formidable appearance, and as her face darkened, she grew even more terrifying. She was so cold that her hands and feet turned cold.

"I apologize, I—" Ye Zhen was at a loss for words.

"Okay, enough with the nonsense. Please hand over the luggage." Zhao Xier reached out, pretending to assist Ye Zhen with her bags.

"No, there is no need. I am already grateful to Auntie Yang for renting the house to us at such a reasonable price. How can I bother you to help us transfer our belongings?" Ye Zhen looked uncomfortable.

When the average person heard such comments, even if they could not move, they would still say a few humble and courteous phrases. Zhao Xier, on the other hand, did not. She clapped her hands as she looked at Ye Zhen's arms and legs, as well as Xiao Mohan's pale face and skinny physique. "You don't have to. I am not sure I want to help you move it anyway."

Ye Zhen had not expected Zhao Xier to be so forthright. She had a weak personality and stood motionless, unsure what to do. She was an adult who did not care whether others liked her. Zhao Xier, on the other hand, was Yang Guiying's grandson. They might not be able to rent that house if Zhao Xier disliked them.

Zhao Xier folded her arms and stood still. As if she had not noticed Ye Zhen's uneasiness, she asked indifferently, "Why were you still standing there? It is so hot outside. Do you want me to get a heat stroke?"

"Ah? Okay, we will go in immediately." When Ye Zhen realized that Zhao Xier had not stopped them from entering, she breathed a sigh of relief. She carried her stuff and crossed the threshold with difficulty. The courtyard's threshold was rather high, and the sun was so intense that it pained her eyes. Ye Zhen was unable to see well and nearly tripped on the ground. Fortunately, Xiao Mohan was quick to respond and grabbed Ye Zhen's arm. Xiao Mohan's chilly gaze fell on Zhao Xier after making sure that Ye Zhen was fine.

Xiao Mohan had a negative image of Zhao Xier from the moment he noticed Zhao Xier's dismissive and perfunctory approach toward them. Then, he witnessed how his mother almost collapsed due to Zhao Xier's provocation, but he did not even help her. His opinion of Zhao Xier had plummeted.

However, Xiao Mohan had misunderstood Zhao Xier. She said those statements solely to maintain her image as a villainous supporting male character. When Ye Zhen was about to collapse to the ground, she stretched out subconsciously to lift her up. However, the electric shock warning from the utility system in her thoughts caused her to come to a halt.

After all, if she did not pull Ye Zhen up, she would simply injure her ankle, but the electric shock might kill Zhao Xier! She had decided her punishment was more significant.

Zhao Xier scowled as she met the harsh stare of the male protagonist, Xiao Mohan. She had a colder expression than the male lead and said, "What are you staring at? She is your mother, not mine. I am under no responsibility to assist her."

"You!"

Zhao Xier's boldness and confidence surprised Xiao Mohan. He was going to say something when Ye Zhen interrupted him. Ye Zhen shook her head at Xiao Mohan, telling him to keep his mouth quiet. Then, with a pale face, she replied, "I am sorry. I was not paying attention while walking. It has absolutely nothing to do with you. Mohan is simply concerned for me, so he uttered those words without thinking. I hope this is okay with you."

Zhao Xier thought, 'My conscience is aching. It is tough to be a horrible person!' She remained silent without responding to Ye Zhen's statements. Zhao Xier approached Xiao Jiashu, patting off the non-existent dust on her body. The small child was struggling to lift a piece of luggage about the same height as him, and his fair and gentle face was drenched in sweat.

Xiao Jiashu moved his bag and congratulated himself. Darkness loomed over him from above just as he was about to enter the courtyard.
