Chereads / My Lady Victoria / Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Victoria feels the wind brushing against her ears as she watches the sun go down behind her. Nothing made her more disgusted then knowing that John is going to treat her just like every other husband that she had. She heard voices in the distance and slowed her horse down a lot as she makes it comes to a halt. Her eyes lands onto John's horse that stays outside of an old building. She makes her horse stop by a tree before getting off and walking over to a window to listen in on a conversation.

John voice can be heard from inside of the building, "I married that bitch who is always sad."

"The one with that wears the black outfit everyday?" Another man asks.

"Yes." John says angrily, "But I only did it because of her dad was paying well."

"I heard that she is the reason to behind William's death." A different man says.

John laughs, "I can see that. She already looks like death itself!"

Victoria looks at the ground. She has known that John thought differently of her, but she didn't realize how different it was. She backs up from the window a bit until she hears a deep voiced man speak:

"Lighten up John, not every woman will be to your liking."

John stands up and opens up his arms wide, "She told me off in front of a crowd in the lord's eyes of all places, Harry!"

Harry laughed whole heartedly, "Oh John, you are merely 32 years now. Let the young lady develop a bit more."

"Shut your mouth, Harry. Not another word from you." John says with venom.

Victoria wants to laugh from what she is hearing, but she knows that it will give her location away.

"Speaking of which, John. What else happened at the wedding?" The other man asks.

"Oh may the Lord save me now, she did not even kiss me. I was being whole hearted about the kiss, but she would not even peck me." John knocks over a table.

"Let's not do something wreck less, John."

"Benjamin, let's not start with something like that now." John sits down on a stool as he grabs a mug of beer and brings it up to his lips, "I cannot with that bitch anymore."

"Divorce her." Benjamin suggested.

"Not with money on the line." John says angrily.

Victoria backs up away from the window and walks back over to her horse gets onto its back. She motions the horse to go forward as it responded in doing so. It took her over an hour to get back to her house as the sun went down and the moon risen up into the sky. She gets off her horse and brings Samuel over to his stable. She takes off his saddle and lead as she hangs them up in their appropriate places.

Victoria leaves the stable after closing the door behind her and walks to her house. She notices that there is a single candle lit inside of the house as she nears the door. She clears her throat and opens up the door to see her parents sitting in her living room.

George looks at his daughter, "Hello Victoria."

Victoria stares at her parents, "Hello mother, father." She walks more into the room and closes the door behind her.

Margret gets up from her seat to walk up to Victoria and slap her, "Are you out of your mind?! You embarrassed your husband! You embarrassed us in front of the entire church of the Lord!"

Victoria doesn't hold onto her cheek, "I have every right to pour out my heart into how it feels. I do not love him, I do not have any feelings for any of the men that you 2 sent at me. I will do what I always do and continue on being myself."

George straightens himself in his seat, "You have no obligation to speak as you will. You are still our daughter and you will no longer be using your privileges as a walking black rose!"

"I would rather be a rose with thorns than a rose waiting to be plucked." Victoria says calmly. She walks over to a nearby candle stand to light it, "You are no longer considered as my parents. The next man that you send at me, I will never go to the wedding. I will roam the world."

Margret glares at Victoria, "With what on your back?"

"I only need a few pounds before going over to America or somewhere to feel safer. In case you 2 do not remember, I am dear friends with Queen so I suggest in no longer touching me, no longer controlling me, and no longer coming near my house anymore." Victoria turns around to face her parents. She watches their reactions.

Margret turns towards George, "Say something you old fool!"

George stands up from his seat and walks over to Victoria. He stares down at his daughter as she stares back up at him, "You have become a woman, I won't interfere with whatever endeavor you have cooked up, but this won't mean that I won't stop finding men for you." He heads out of the house.

Margret watches her husband leave the house, she turns her head back over to Victoria, "This won't be the end of us."

Victoria says calmly, "I do not expect that it won't be."

Margret leaves the house to go to her husband.

Victoria walks over to the door and closes it. She let's out some air that has been stuck in her throat as she turns around and heads to her room. She wipes off her makeup and strips herself from her clothes. She walks over to her bed and lies down after covering herself with a blanket.

It has been 30 minutes and Victoria heard the door open, knowing who it is. She refuses to open her eyes for him.

John let's out a sigh and takes off his jacket and shoes before going over to the bed and lying down in it. Refusing to cover himself, he mutters out loud, "You ugly bitch, why must I be married to a woman like you."

Victoria opens her eyes and looks at the bed. She had enough of speaking to him for one day, but what he said was out of line. She sits up in the bed while letting the blanket slide off her a bit, "I have never wished to marry you nor do I want to share a bed with you, but this is what greedy people wanted."

John laughs and sits up, "You think that your words have any usage on me? you are wrongly mistaken, I can have you arrested for killing off William."

"I have done no such thing." Victoria looks out the window as she feels John slithers his arms around her waist.

"You are surely a viper to not be messed with. I wonder what you are like when you are the prey." John whispers into her ear.

Victoria turns to John, "Do not concern yourself with that, it hardens my heart even more by just looking at you." She moves out of his arms and stands up.

John gets off the bed and wraps his arms back around Victoria's waist, "It softens my heart by looking at you."

"You called me ugly not even time ago." Victoria corrects John.

"Oh you know how us men are. When we get frustrated, we say the most silliest of things." John begins to kiss along Victoria's neck.

Victoria gags by the touch of John's lips, "I have to go see Lilly tomorrow so that we may plan to see the Queen."

John stops kissing Victoria's neck and straightens himself out to look into her eyes, "You do not wish to spend time with your husband?"

"Not in the slightest." Victoria moves out of his arms and crawls back into bed. She covers herself up and closes her eyes, "Now sleep before I feel like throwing up from the sight of you."

"Now now Victoria, let's not be haste now." John goes over to his side of the bed and crawls into it. He looks at Victoria with her eyes closed, "You know that you look beautiful asleep."

"Your words mean nothing to me." Victoria flips over to her other side.

John glares at Victoria before flipping himself over and looks at a wall, "So be it than." He closes his eyes to let sleep overcome him.

Victoria opens up her eyes and a single tear go down her cheek. This might be an ugly ending...

The sun has risen to let Victoria awaken from her slumber. She lazily sits up and looks to her side to see that John was nowhere in sight. She gets out of bed and walks over to ready herself for the day. Her and Isabelle have a big day ahead of them and don't need people like John to ruin it.

Victoria dresses herself and puts on her makeup. She brushes out her hair and helps curl it. She grabs her black signature hat with 3 black feathers attached to it. She grabs her black gloves and heads to her bedroom door to leave. She turns to her bed and sighs before going to make it. After making the bed, Victoria heads out of the room and goes off to find Isabelle in the market.

The market is busy with people looking at foods and accessories as Victoria walks through the crowd. She would occasionally be able to walk through when people have noticed her while other times she has to force herself to walk through the crowd.

It took her a few minutes to find Isabelle talking to a woman with ginger hair. Victoria walks up to Isabelle and the woman, "Good morning, Isabelle. I see that you have another woman with you."

Isabelle turns to look at her friend, "This is Lucy McFauld. I have met her a few weeks ago when she was looking for a woman to sweep her off her feet."

Victoria turns her attention on Lucy before looking back at Isabelle, "She is Irish?"

"The purest kind." Isabelle says before saying her goodbyes to Lucy in which she walked away from the 2 ladies.

"They might send Lucy back to Ireland or worse throw her in jail if they find out about the fact that she is not into men." Victoria looks at the crowd before her.

Isabelle smiles slightly, "That is why I am making sure that she stays in Britain for as long as possible." She begins to walk towards a bakery with Victoria following her.

Victoria looks around at the people, "John and I had a talk last night."

"Was it a good talk or a bad talk?" Isabelle asks as she grabs some bread for her and Victoria.

"A bad talk, he was saying horrendous things just like how my other husbands talked."

Isabelle hands gold to the baker and turns around to Victoria to hand her a loaf of bread, "Eat this, it will make you feel better."

Victoria gladly takes the loaf of bread and munches it.

Isabelle begins to eat her bread as she walks over to a bench to sit on, "John was never a good choice for you. He has a black heart as the others."

Victoria sits down next to Isabelle, "Not only that, but I have followed him after the wedding and he was talking terrible things about me to his allies." She eats more of the bread.

Isabelle shakes her head, "I never liked him. Your parents are sure to blame for this one just like the others." She looks over at her friend, "What are you going to do about him?"

"There is not much that I can do." Victoria states.

Isabelle bites down onto her loaf of bread and sees a man running up to them.

The man nears the ladies and stops running, "Are you, Victoria Harbor?"

Victoria nods, "That is I."

The man gives her a letter, "The mayor wishes to see you."

Victoria grabs the letter, "I will see him shortly."

The man nods and bids his fair well before running off.

Isabelle turns to Victoria, "The mayor wants to see you?"

"It must be about William's death." Victoria opens up the letter.

Isabelle watches Victoria read the letter, "What does it say?"

"It says: Dear Mrs. Harbor, I have heard of your marriage to John Harbor, Alexander III Harbor's son. I wish to congratulate you on your wedding to such a fine man, but in frank we have some issues to discuss. You may bring Isabelle Lancer with you, but only for a short time since most of our discussion shall be about the topic of your late husband, William Booth, death. Please come urgently to my building in the center of London before noon. Sincerely, Jack Fergusson." Victoria stops reading.

"So it is about that old fart's death." Isabelle finishes eating her bread.

"It does not bother me. If Jack accuses me of murdering him, he must be mistaken." Victoria folds up the letter and stands up. She looks at her friend, "Let us go visit Jack."

Isabelle nods and gets up from her seat. She walks next to her friend as they walk toward the center of London.
