Chapter 20 - Part 20

"Let's go!" Lyn exclaimed, her grip on my hand filled with excitement. We slipped out of the room. A rush of thrill coursed through me as we passed a few vampires in the hallway. They watched us without question, merely shadowing us like bodyguards. As we approached the library at the end of the hall, my heart raced. Lyn pushed open the door, and the guards stationed outside stood stoically, just as they did outside my room. When Lyn flicked on the lights, I gasped in awe. The room was enormous, with towering bookshelves stretching to the ceiling. "Wow," I breathed, unable to contain my wonder."This is incredible!" I said, my eyes wide with amazement. I ran my fingers along the spines of the books, inhaling the rich scent of aged paper and ink. Each shelf was filled with countless stories and secrets, igniting a sense of anticipation within me."This is interesting," I remarked, feeling a rush of excitement as Lyn chuckled at my enthusiasm."Yeah, it's pretty rare for people to come in here," she said. "The royals usually have books delivered straight to their rooms, and no one's really allowed in there without permission. These books have been treasured for centuries, so you can find pretty much anything you want in here."Her words piqued my interest, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement at the thought of finding something new about these creatures. Each section of the library was neatly organized by genre—literature, fiction, history, and more. My fingers glided over the spines until they stopped at the history section. I wasn't usually interested in history, but something tugged at me to explore it further. As I scanned the shelves, my gaze landed on a golden-covered book that seemed to shimmer under the fluorescent lights. Its title read "History of Witches," and I felt an irresistible pull toward it. Perhaps it would hold answers about my own past, especially after everything everyone had said.Lyn settled into a cozy spot by the window, engrossed in her own book, giving me the privacy I appreciated. Clutching the witchcraft book, I found a soft, white sofa and sat cross-legged, excitement bubbling inside me as I opened it.As I flipped through the pages, eager to uncover clues about my heritage, my fingers brushed a corner of the book, and suddenly, a sparkle burst from the pages, almost like magic. Startled, I jerked back, and the book slipped from my hands, landing with a loud thud on the table."Is everything all right?" Lyn called from her seat, looking up with concern."Yeah, I just dropped a book," I replied in my calmest voice. She nodded and returned to her reading, but I couldn't shake the sense that something is going to happen.I rubbed my eyes and picked up the book, placing it on my lap. To my surprise, it glowed as I opened it. I'd never seen anything magical like this in real life. Glancing around the room, I felt a strange unease, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. The book didn't frighten me; it intrigued me.I traced my finger along the first page, and it began to glow again. This time, I felt no fear. The author's name was embossed in gold: Sir Louise Dallion. Whispering his name sent a shiver through me, as if I'd known him forever. As I immersed myself in the tale of Witch Queen Irina and her extraordinary powers, I was filled with awe. The pages spoke of her family and their legacy, and I couldn't help but feel enchanted. Then I saw the name Amanda. She was Irina's daughter, blessed with the same powers. A jolt ran through me as I realized she was the woman from my vision—the Vampire Queen, William's mother. As I read about Amanda's loving nature and courage, I felt both admiration and a sense of inadequacy. I wasn't as brave as she was.My heart sank when I turned the page to find it blank, and I felt a wave of disappointment wash over me. I placed my finger on the paper, wondering if the words were hidden or written in invisible ink. As I traced the page, words slowly began to appear. I was right; they were concealed for a reason. My heart stopped as I read the words, then raced with anticipation. This could change everything."Dear daughter!"It wasn't just a book about witches and their powers; it was a message meant for me.The words on the page seemed to jump out at me, filling me with confusion. If you have found this book then I'm worried you are in the wrong hands. Your father.Tears choked me as I gazed at the picture, feeling utterly trapped. The realisation hit me like a wave: the book was a warning from my parents. They had given me away to protect me, knowing they wouldn't live to save me. My grip tightened around the book, a lifeline to their love and foresight. They had hidden this book, knowing I would eventually find it and guiding me toward my true purpose. The weight of their sacrifices settled in my chest along with so many questions for which I wouldn't find the answer here. Shame washed over me for being so ignorant. Everyone believed I was powerful, but I had never really tried to find it. I sobbed quietly.Lyn's gentle touch brushed back my hair, pulling me from my thoughts. "Hey, what happened?" she asked, glancing at the book. I quickly shut it, shielding its secrets."Nothing. I was just reading. Some words were overwhelming. I miss my family," I admitted, offering only a partial truth. She hesitated, clearly unconvinced, but chose not to press further. "Let's go," I said, wiping away my tears. As we made our way back to my room, the weight of the book's message pressed heavily on my heart. My thoughts swirled with unanswered questions, making it hard to find clarity."Um, do you want something to eat? Let's go to the kitchen first," Lyn suggested, trying to lighten the mood. I nodded, grateful for the distraction, hoping food might lift my spirits.Entering the kitchen, the delicious aroma of freshly cooked meals enveloped me, making my mouth water. The space was massive, like a hotel, with cooking stations brimming with everything from fruits to meats. I inhaled deeply, feeling my mood brighten instantly. Lyn nudged me toward the fridge, and I couldn't help but smile. Her effort to make me comfortable meant a lot, more than she realized. Maids bustled around us, focused on their tasks, offering polite bows as we passed. I quickly grabbed a handful of berries from the fridge, popping them into my mouth. Lyn chuckled at my enthusiasm, and for a moment, I felt lighter."Do you want anything else?" She asked looking inside the fridge."Nope. I really don't have an appetite right now." I said finishing the box of berries.Ms Lyn. A maid called from behind."Mr John is looking for you. He is in the meeting hall," she said and waited for her to respond while stealing glances at me."Go, I'll find my way back," I said and smiled."Are you sure?" She questioned. I can walk you to your room and go. She offered."I know the route, I can manage on my own, now go," I said pushing her to the door.A sigh left my lips before I left the kitchen with the heavy book in my hand. I clutched it a bit too tight and walked toward the stairs. The clouds blocked the sun's warm rays and the sky was turning darker, murky grey. The sign of an upcoming storm.
