Chapter 7 - – beautiful oddity -

It's ten in the morning and I was just sitting here, in the kitchen, swirling my fork on the almost empty plate. I devoured Davis's pancake only in five minutes. The taste was so good that made my tummy smile.

Apparently, I wasn't able to go back to sleep since I was awake this too early morning. I've tried to, but I got lower back pain as the result of getting too long slouching at the window seat. So, I moved onto the bed, but what happened next was I just kept rolling over, to the right and left for about two hours long. What a wasted time.

Knowing that I clearly failed to close my eyes, I decided to take a shower. The hot water showering me felt so great through my back pain. It was eased a lot. Hoping that the freshness would make me more relaxed, so that I could go back to sleep. However, sleeping is one of my favorite activities. You know, it's effectively killed the time. What an indolent Delilah.

Unfortunately, while I was enjoying the hot water in the bathroom, I heard the doorbell ring. For once, I ignored it. The second rang, but I still ignored it. I mean, if we are visiting someone then pressing the doorbell, but the door isn't opened, surely, we will leave the house, assuming that he or she isn't at home, right? That's what I expected from whoever had pressed the bell, I don't want anyone to interfere with my quality time, though.

But I was wrong. That person kept pressing the bell, seemed like knowing that someone was in the house. The noise of the bell was so annoying. I finally gave up. I ended my shower, put on my bathrobe and slippers, wrapped my wet hair with the white towel, and hurriedly went downstairs to greet that noisy person.

Surprisingly, there was no one out there as I opened the door and was ready to meet the annoying guest. The cold air was the only one that greeted me. I even walked up to the main road, just in case I could still catch up and shout at that person. But still, there was no one to be found. With annoying steps, I finally returned to the house, and locked the front door. This is maddening.

That's how I ended up at this kitchen island, still in this dark blue bathrobe, with probably in half dry hair, since it had been wrapped in such a quite long time, and now with an already empty plate. Well, while my tummy has already full, I think it's time for me to get dressed. I felt cold by the way.

A moment after I stood up, for the umpteenth time, the doorbell is ringing, again, and again. I sighed and rolled my eyes. What an annoying! "Alright, alright, I'm coming!" I shouted from the kitchen while walking towards that sound. I feel like I'm ready to show up my peevish glare towards that someone as I am yanking the door. But sadly, it happened again. There was only a cold wind blowing in my face. "What the hell?" I finally talked to myself. All of these turn me suspicious. Is this doorbell broken or something? Even though I'm not good at electrical things, but I tried to check it out. I frowned as I was observing that black button. I pressed in a couple of times. It worked so well. And when I tried to leave it for a moment, it doesn't ring. It shows that this thing shouldn't be damaged at all. So, I decided to go back inside, and close the door behind me. But for the last check, just to make sure, I deliberately peeped outside through the peephole, just in case if there was a prankster out there. I swear to God, if there's any, I'll shock anyone out there like they've never been before.

Still, no one out there, even the shadows. I sighed.

Suddenly, I just feel like there is someone standing behind me. Even though I'm not sure if it's someone or something, I can feel its presence. The cold that felt on my nape gave a clear signal for that. My calves feel it as well by the way. I swallowed hard, and somehow it felt a bit hurt in my throat. I'm sure it's because I'm apprehensive. I mustered all the courage within myself to turn around. I find no one. But somehow, the strange air is still here.

I tiptoe to scan every corner of this house. The living room is clear, and so is the kitchen, and the bathroom as well. Next is upstairs. With me still tiptoeing, firstly, I scan to Davis's room. The door is widely opened. It's definitely clear. Everything looks neat. He let the window shut as always when he left. When I turn around and was about to check on the opposite room which is mine, I saw something pass through. More precisely, it was dashing.

Shit! Why it should be in my room?? And why is this happening when I am home alone? I do love thrill movies but that doesn't mean I want it to happen in my real life. Oh please, whatever is it, please be nice to me.

I take a deep inhale to calm my nervousness, then a long exhale. As I scan Davis's room, there's nothing that catches my eyes to use as a weapon. Until my gaze fixed on the classical guitar. Okay, that could be a useful one. I tightened the belt of my bathrobe before starting the war and grab the guitar. I'm holding it upside down, so it would be more powerful if I need to hit whatever I would meet later. Anyway, I feel like a tennis player ready to hit the incoming ball with all my might. With sluggish steps, I sneak towards my room.

Cautiously.

At this time, I'm not gonna lie that my heart is pounding crazily. Please, please, please, be nothing to find.

What I encountered once I got to my room was exactly the same as before. There is no one here. Only the wind blows through my slightly open window. I don't know whether I should be relieved or not, because I literally saw something that nearly looked like someone passed by here.

My shoulders slump. I toss the guitar on my bed, which luckily didn't hit the wall. Davis would scream at me as loud as a whistling kettle if it really happens, knowing that's the one and only guitar he has and loves so much as if it was his wife. Anyway, I should get dressed right now and then go outside to get some fresh air.

A long-sleeved light grey knit with a turtleneck style is my choice today. I pulled out my black leather jacket from the drawer as the outer. I also wear matching beanies and mittens. For the bottom, my favorite black skinny jeans were the chosen one, followed by the mid-calf boots which have the same color. I let my wavy long light brown hair fall naturally. Actually, I have no clue where I'm going, but I think I'll just take a walk around this neighborhood. It's good to get to know more about where you live, right?

I locked the door, making sure it was on a right-click, and ready to go. Since I'll walk alone here, it would be much better if I plug the earphone into my ears and play the music on. I chose my Ruelle playlist to be played as my walking company. I slide my phone into my pocket and then start my steps.

Apparently, this neighborhood is so quiet, no matter whether it was day or night. I turned to the house next door. It's as if there was no life there. The porch lights were left on during the day, the doors were tightly closed, and so were the curtains. But the yard was clean. It might be the hint that there was someone living there. The same thing happened to the second house, and to another house.

Really, how can I make friends in this spooky neighborhood? Indeed, I am totally trapped in this desolate Healy, only with Davis, perhaps for the rest of my life. What a bore. I shook my head and giggled.

When I looked back, I just realized that seemed like I was walking far enough. My gaze then shifted to Gloria's house. I remember she said that she has a daughter, maybe it's time for me to visit. Yeah, at least I have someone to talk to in the afternoon. Then I walked with confident steps towards the dark brown house, to meet Gloria and her daughter.

Out of a sudden, I felt like I heard and saw something on my left; which is the woods. I stopped. It's kind of snapping branches. Come on, not again. It's enough weirdness thing that I had today. I mean, now what?? I try to stay calm to the cracking voices. I squinted and started to step into the woods, quietly. Until a large grey thing like a cow with horns popped out of the woods.

It's mama moose!!

"Shit!!" I've never met this creature this close. I'm clueless. What should I do? Should I run? Will she chase me if I run? No, no, no. I shouldn't run. It probably could make her panic and turn to attack me with those horns. I carefully stepped back, as that mama moose come closer, followed by her twins behind. As the nervousness increased, I became careless. I didn't notice that there was a fairly large rock behind me that I accidentally stepped onto it. Causing me to slowly fall backward.

Lucky me, someone swiftly caught me in the back. I am safe.

Wait, someone?!

For seconds, I forgot about the moose. I glanced upwards only to meet that someone who saved me. My jaws drop when I found out that this is the face I'd been waiting for! I froze in his arms. It's really him. "Hello, neighbor." Oh, to his voice and smile. I feel so happy to finally see him again.

"Sounds familiar." I said as he helped me to get up. Today, he's wearing a grey t-shirt, a grey coat, and black jeans for the bottom. The black boots add to his perfect look. Wow! Looks like we wear the matching colors. "Thank you for catching me. You save my life, dude."

"No problem. I'm glad that the time was just perfect to find you."

"But how did you ... " he stopped me from talking and twisting his fingers to ask me to turn around, and I did that. What a surprise that the moose is too close to my face!

I don't need any second to spontaneously turn around again and be ready to run. But I forgot that aside from the closest moose, I was standing too close to this Mr. Neighbor either. Then it's no wonder it makes us collide. "Whoops!" He catches me, again. It's just, now I'm capable to see his face, way closer. And technically, he hugs me right now, because I can feel his arms wrapping around me. He froze me for the second time only in minutes. Just seeing his warm eyes, it's enough for me to earn some calmness.

Somehow, when our eyes were locked, I felt that my surroundings were spinning rapidly, and I was like falling into an endless hole. I heard my subconscious scream very loudly, asking for help. It was her who fell, not me. She was petrified, but I couldn't help.

Meanwhile, I didn't stagger at all nor felt dizzy. As if my gravity was no longer on earth but on him. It feels like I'm separated from my subconscious. All I felt was great calm and enchanted. Yes, it's always enchanted to meet him. I can feel that since our first meeting. Only, I felt it's weirder at this time. His lips didn't say any words but seem like his eyes did. He has miraculous eyes, which makes me very comfortable being around him. Although I don't know what feeling this is, but it's a beautiful oddity.

Then I feel his arms slowly shift from my small back to my shoulders, his head lowered and whispered, "Don't be scared, baby."
