Chapter 18 - The Rapture

I thought over my divinities. How my creations would spread and infect those below me and I thought….why?

Nurgle in all his glory is lord of all, because all things, no matter how solid and permanent they seem, are liable to physical corruption. And I thought, 'How could I achieve such a degree of power?'

Yes, mortals spoke with hushed tones laced with overwhelming fear, yes I had some cults across the lands but was infecting people all I wanted to do?

Of course not.

All the Chaos gods are embodiments of the hopes, fears and other strong emotions and concepts generated by the mortal races. In Nurgle's case, the source of power is insecurity, denial, self-delusion and the living's fear of inevitable death and disease, as well as their unconscious response to that fear, which is the "power of life", the motivating power of mankind and other races.

Nurgle coaxes new worshippers into his fold by stripping them of any other options, inflicting a spiritual tain upon the populace that is reflected outwardly as disease and pestilence. The desperate, ostracized and dying come to Nurgle to find alleviation from their pain. To these potential devotees, Nurgle provides not redemption from their ailments, but rather comfort within their suffering.

Those blessed by Nurgle are granted relief from physical pain as well as a bizarre satisfaction in their depressive state. It is a twisting of a being's perceived reality, turning delusion and denial into truth and acceptance, just as self-respect and vanity turn into monstrous self-satisfaction.

And yet, Nurgle had entire galaxies to play with.

What was to stop someone from simply killing me? Gorr killed an untold number of gods before me so I know its possible. There was so much to do that it was overwhelming. I ran through my thoughts as I continued on my work on the blacklight virus.

Ingredients were coming slowly but atleast they were coming. From a pit of milky green bubbles did a daemon form. Ahhh, yes, after I gained my own premises, creation of my own denizens was of upmost importance as I didnt want to be lonely. While I could go to Olympus and hang out with…..someone, who would it be?

Zeus? No.

Poseidon? He's always in Atlantis.

Athena? She thought she could control me, I was under no ones control, everything I do was for myself.

Aphrodite? A simple whore nothing else of substance. Those who fell for her 'wooing' and 'seduction' were those who could not control baser instincts and were simply dogs willing to bite their own tail of for only a moment of the whore looking at them, how pathetic.

Dionysius?...…No.

None of them- wait…..In all my years I still haven't visited my family. Darrhon, Epione, Aceso, Hygieia, Iaso, and Panacea. My mother and my siblings. Ohhh, how fun…

Athena POV

A….a GodButcher? That makes no sense.

Only minutes ago were we, the Olympians, told of a GodButcher. The very idea was ludicrous. Beings of divine power were...divine. To think that a mortal alien would become the first slayer of gods, was troubling. Hermes came with the news of such a ppthing and while we couldn't believe it, I went to see myself.

What I was met with. "Madea? I would've thought Maegor to discard you by now." Her new visage couldn't hide her from me.

"And if My lord shall do so, I will accept with divine glee.-" She responded instantly. How Maegor could create such a disgusting creature I did not know. "-But for now, I will ask, why are you here?" Was that hate I detected.

Did she not know who I am? "You will not ask questions of me-"

"Athena." A voice reached my ears with nothing but a whisper. It was conflicting, as cold and empty of life as a crypt but it also held something else. Love? Does he love me? "Why do you speak to my beautiful creation in such a way?" He asked softly. There was no malicious intent behind it, just curiosity.

"Your…abomination speaks to me as if it is equal. I suggest you-"

"But you are equal. Are you not?" His question confused me, how could we be equal? How did he speak to me in such a way? He was not even here. His voice carried from his biome to here? How interesting. "What is it that you want with Gorr's body." So that is the aliens name.

"To satiate my curiosity. Have you ever known a god to die?" I subtly searched for answers in his answer.

"Perhaps we could both search for answers." He spoke in a calm, fawning manner, as if luring me into his lair. The soft winds began whispering across the damaged lands. His power was increasing, fast. "In fact, im sure Olympus itself would love to see what I've found, what do you say, Athena?" As he finished, a rhapsody of glamour, vile green dust summoned itself into the atmosphere.

A column of swirling emerald appeared under Madea's feet and erupted into the sky. Its evanescent aurora was intoxicating, the halcyon seconds passed into minutes as I stood stiff in my spot on the scarred Earth. "I accept…..let me gather Olympus and we will visit upon your lands."

"Groovy."

(Just got back from the Virgo Supercluster a couple million light years away. Highly recommend you take a vacation there, 10/10 would go again to witness the cat's eye nebula.)
