Chapter 117 - A Hybrid and the Bear

The bear struggled in the hole she fell into. Pain radiated from her side, and the most intense of the pain came from her front-left leg. Something didn't feel right, and when she tried to look at her leg, it looked wrong. That was when she heard something above her.

A humanoid shaped figure loomed above her, tall, almost as tall as its mother, and its left arm focused down into a bladed point. With large horns erupting from its flowing, matted hair, the two aspects only added to its muscular frame.

The bear was losing consciousness. She was slipping deeper into the darkness as her thoughts ran slower and became more muddled. Eventually, the last thing she felt before losing it entirely was fear.

Kali was looking down at the beast. It was a creature called an ursanid. Usually, the creatures would have brown to black fur with a variety of different plating colors. This one had red stripes across its body, and when she opened its eyes once she retrieved it from the hole, it had red irises.

One other thing to note was that the ursanid was only a cub, and the mothers were always protective and extremely quick to anger if one were to disturb its children. The fact that she now had the smell of the cub on her along with her being the reason its leg was broken was not fantastic for her.

Then again, the cubs would never stray too far from their mother, and the fact that this one's crying didn't start the heavy sound of its mother running must've meant that something happened to it. That was something she sympathized with.

Curious, she examined the rest of it, and yeah, there was just something different about it. She brought it back to her cave, and instead of putting it out of its mystery, she put a splint on its leg. The pain from having its limb woke the cub from its slumber, but it was far too confused to really do anything.

Kali, nervous about the idea of having this monster in her home, cautiously backed up and brought over some of the cooked wolf monster she was having. Slowly and carefully, she set down the hunk of meat, not wanting to startle the small cub.

-----

The bear was offered some meat by the humanoid, and the creature was confused. At the moment, her mind was a mess of thoughts, memories, and emotions, and all of it just made its body go into autopilot

Eating the meat, she soon fell into darkness again.

Like that, the process continued for a few more days, and while the bear had regained awareness, she now saw the humanoid as its family. Then, one day finally came around, and the bear followed her person out of the cave. She followed it, trying to stay as quiet as possible. The two trekked through the forest until the humanoid finally came upon her prey, and she made her move.

It was another one of those wolf monsters, and she fought with it, trying to subdue it. Then, the bear noticed something, something else that was following Kali.

Stalking through the brush, a large wolf-like appearance crawled through the foliage. Unlike the one Kali was fighting, this one was clearly stronger, evolved. The one she was fighting had the body of a wolf with the ability to release electricity when in danger. This evolved monster's fur was pointing up, the mixture of its tense muscles and static electricity causing its hair to stand on end.

Small flashes of lightning arced across its fur, and when it opened its mouth, strands of electrical energy reached across its upper and lower jaw. Saliva that dripped out shocked the plants it landed on.

Tensing up, the monster pounced forth, lightning rippling across its gray fur. In that split second, the cub, too, leapt forth, tackling the larger creature out of the air. The tackle didn't hurt the wolf much, but with the sudden change in direction, the canine beast was sent through the air, bouncing off of the ground a couple times.

The attack, unfortunately, seemed to hurt the cub more than the wolf. The small monster was forced to the ground, electricity forcing its muscles to spasm. Crying loudly, her humanoid whipped her head around to see her companion on the ground and the wolf getting up with a deep growl.

Slitting the throats of the monster she was dealing with, she rushed over to help the small cub. She brought her spike-hand up in an upwards slash, and utilizing a skill she used plenty in her adventuring career, she sent out a slash of fire that impacted the stalking canine.

A long burn that blistered the skin was cut into the wolf's side. Turns out, her skill that allows her to send out flaming fists when she punched recognized her bone as a suitable weapon.

She leapt into the air, leaping off of platforms formed in the air, and she came crashing down with her spike facing the ground. The wolf, however, as an evolved creature wasn't so simple. Sending waves of electricity through its body, it managed to speed itself up and increase its reaction speed artificially.

The canine zapped around, the smell of ozone following it in the trail it left. Kali tried to send out waves of flaming slashes to hit it, but she was unable to land a single attack. Then, a sharp, electrocuting pain shot out from her right calf. She kicked her leg back, a combination of both a conscious reaction and the electricity coursing through her muscles, however, her hooved foot didn't manage to land on the beast.

The bear watched this unfold, her body recovering from the literal shock, and she remembered that thing that took her original family. Red consumed her vision, and she could feel her temper rising into a boiling point. Her muscles bulged with unnatural energy, and the ability she had from birth, gained by an accident of luck in her status screen before she was born activated.

[Skill: Berserk activated.]
