Chapter 80 - A Rat and the Patchwork

The mismatched patchworked, abominable undead let out a low grumble as it towered over the people of the inn. It watched with all its cold, dead eyes, spread across its body. Its left arm was red, muscular, and the length of its whole body, twisting and bending at unnatural angles. Its right arm was shrunken and small, but had tentacles sprouting from the shoulder's base, swirling into one mass. A huge crab claw came from the right side of its back, and a scorpion claw came from the left side. A quill-covered tail started sprouting from its back, but it split into a monkey's tail and a shark's tail.

In all of its patchwork horror, it took a step forward with a horse's leg with a bird claw in the place of its hooves. Another step forward revealed its huge human leg, albeit covered in scales. It kept trudging forward with increasing speed and energy. The people who stayed in the inn all took a step back at the monster's sudden galumphing into battle.

A mage with white hair and thick glasses confidently strolled up in front of the monster, "I'll take care of this!" At his words, he stuck out his simple wooden staff, and the crystal fixed to the top turned a fiery red. A ball of flame swirled into existence, concentrating into a ball right in front of the staff. The arrogant mage yelled, "[Fireball]!!!" With his spell announced, the flame shot forward and smashed into the undead. The flame exploded and engulfed the undead which was only two meters from reaching the mage.

The fire lasted for a while more, continuing to vortex around the undead's spot. "Easy kill." The cocky mage exclaimed with confidence. Suddenly from the flame, a red, muscular, unnaturally long arm swung like a bat and collided with the mage. The young man was thrown across the room, his body dented and disformed, and he soon flew through the wall of the building. A bloody spray was splattered across the inn, and the barely twitching body of the mage was the only sign that the lump of meat still somehow held onto a rapidly decaying string, connecting him to his body.

All the people in the room took a moment to compose themselves as the undead emerged from the raging blaze left from the arrogant mage's attack. It came from the fire, barely burnt, and restarted its poor dash to the adventurers.

The adventurers prepared themselves while Eodum, Henry, and Sheila took a step back. They'd prefer to see what they were up against and how it would attack the people of the inn before fighting it themselves. The undead reached the adventurers and so the battle began.

The lumbering monster swung its elongated arm around like a club, bashing and smashing all around it. Plenty of adventurers were caught up in the simple but powerful attacks, and many were also being ripped limb from limb by the undead's other arm. Tentacles split apart, wriggling and dancing around the room to find their next prey. Two different claws were also moving at the same time: the crab claw was crushing those caught in its grasp while the scorpion claw was used for stabbing and cutting. The tails also had to be evaded as quills, fins, and fur danced around the room, not really hurting anyone but being an incredible annoyance.

Limbs of all sorts started massacring the adventurers. Soon after the battle began, the majority of the adventurers' forces were decimated. Soon, all that was left was the Void Horse party, the undead, and the necromancers. Piles of corpses spread throughout the small inn and filled the building with the smell of death.

The necromancers could immediately tell that these three were a different breed when compared to the rest of the adventurers, and they acted appropriately. The necromancers began chanting and energy started passing into the lumbering undead. Its muscles noticeably expanded and compacted. It increased slightly more in size, barely fitting in the small inn, but still enough to move around with relative agility.

Its growling and gurgling became more aggressive and intense as its many eyes focused on the Void Horse party. It started its run once more, though noticeably faster and stronger. Fragile wooden planks cracked and snapped under the pressure of the undead. It leapt forward with the power of its humanoid leg, and the rest of its limbs prepared to attack.

Sheila raised her extremely dented shield and yelled with vigor, "[Divine Blessing], [Divine Area], [Divine Armor], [Divine Warrior], [Holy Wall]!"

With her shout, her entire body and even the area around her began to glow a bright gold. Her shield stood out as it beamed with such energy that it was borderline blinding. Energy began to extend from the shield creating a wall of pure energy that glowed more noticeable than before. It thickened and hardened, and Sheila planted her feet firmly into the ground because of the incoming damage and the difficulty of managing such a large defensive armament.

The undead barrelled forth and crashed into the shield. The pressure of wind that burst from the clash made corpses fly and impacted the walls.

The undead pounded on the mighty, golden wall, fists, tentacles, pincers, and talons reflecting off of the barrier. It pounded on the mighty construct with more and more force, and Sheila's feet clenched harder and were pushed farther and farther backwards and into the ground.

Henry started flying higher and shouted over the clash of battle, "[Freezing Falls]!!!" With his sudden interruption… nothing happened. Not a thing. Then the undead was being crushed under the force of a mighty icy waterfall.

The spell started way above the inn and crashed through it with minimal effort. Chunks of heavy ice pounded into the skull of the undead, and it slowed down slightly as parts of it began to freeze over.

The undead halted its attacks, but roared out soon after with an ear piercing shout. With a sudden move, its arms, tentacles, and pincers gathered together, and slammed down with incredible force. Then, a small cracking sounded through the now eerily quiet inn.
