"So, there are things in the void now?" Henry asked, shocked.
"Yes, there are lights and suns." Eodum confirms.
Sheila chimes in, "By lights, could you mean the stars?"
"Some, but there are also just lights." Eodum stated.
Henry's face distorted with slight confusion, "... just… lights?"
Eodum nodded in confirmation, "Yes, just lights. Before I started evolving, I bought [Light Magic], and obtained a new evolutionary route: the Space Rat."
"Pfft," Henry held in a laugh, "That's one of the lamest names I've heard."
Eodum's head tilted to the side, "It is?"
Henry let out a small snicker, "Yep, it is."
"How so?" Eodum questioned as Henry's face began to steel to stone.
Henry shifted uncomfortably for a moment before replying, "Different viewpoint, you wouldn't understand."
While Eodum didn't let the thought wander too much, Sheila looked at Henry suspiciously. He held still like a prey in front of a predator, but eventually she dismissed it, on the outside anyway. He let out a quiet sigh of relief and relaxed his tensed body.
The three continued their conversations with Henry announcing, "Yeah, it'll be a while before either Sheila and I evolve again. We've already evolved fairly recently with becoming a greater fire spirit and a draugr, though that was before the attack on Nomed began, so we've gained quite a few levels."
Sheila nodded, confirming what Henry said, but a growl from Eodum's stomach caught the attention of Henry and Sheila.
"Where's that vinol thing?" Eodum asked, a ravenous hunger somehow emanating from its glowing white eyes.
Henry responded, "Right the vinol, here you are." With that said, the bloodied corpse appeared a meter off the ground and began its descent to the wooden floors. Before the body could crash through the wooden floors with a splat, however, Eodum leapt at it. Its jaw and mouth quivered and distorted, widening and growing greatly in size. It expanded and stretched large enough to fully engulf the vinol in one massive crunch. The meal would have no doubt been extremely messy with blood, bones, and viscera spraying over the walls and furniture if the carnage had not been contained in Eodum's maw.
Henry and Sheila watched in slight disturbance: while they'd have adapted to be monsters quite well, and their mentality allowed for the murder of humans, but the sight of monstrous, huge jaws consuming a cow-sized hunk of meat, holding back a flood of gore, was still somewhat upsetting
Eodum swallowed down the meat with it somehow disappearing as Eodum's stomach kept its normal size. While this did slightly confuse Henry and Sheila, they quickly moved past it. "Hmm, still hungry. Let's get something to eat." Eodum said with another growl of its stomach.
Sheila asked, "Sure, but watch your manners when outside, okay?"
"Okay." Eodum accepted. With a quick nod from Henry, the three left their room. They wandered through the solid wooden corridors and found themselves downstairs in the serving area of the inn. It was remarkably similar to the inn in Nomed they stayed at: a two story building with the first dedicated to serving and reception and the second for people to stay in, albeit much smaller.
The bustling of the busy room barely even recognized the presence and entry of the three. Mostly passing adventurers with a few farmers just getting a drink. The party sat down at a table and waited for a waiter to arrive. A young boy in simple clothes with onyx-like skin walked up to the table, "Hello, what would you like to order?"
"I'll have grilled squash." Henry said with a smile.
Eodum was next, "Two vinol steaks."
Sheila simply shook her head, "I'll pass on the food."
The boy finished writing down their orders, "Alright, we'll get your orders to you right away!" He smiled and walked off to the presumed kitchen. The party waited patiently. Eodum turned up to face the ceiling, but noticed something odd. With its [Magical Perception], it noticed the slight swirling of magic in the air. It distorted around a specific spot, moving as if something was there. It was also oddly concentrated, magic gathering up to do… something.
Curious, Eodum sneakily slid a dark tendril through the shadows of the inn, up the walls, across the ceiling, and having it freeze right behind the concentration. With a light tap, the tentacle pushed the anomaly, and with a startle, it turned around and attacked. A foot long piece of Eodum was lopped off, oddly dark blood spilling from the wound. The tendril piece hit the ground with a thud, followed by the raining of the dark blood.
Silence washed over the inn, all but for the occasional drift of blood from the rafters. A few more tentacles ejected themselves from Eodum's side, through the shadows, up the wall, and across the ceiling. The wound that caused the bloody downpour had stopped bleeding and recovered, albeit not from healing; it simply moved the flesh in front of the wound.
Finally, a scream pierced through the air, followed by the many screams, yells, and cursing of the people in the inn. Adventurers prepared for a battle along with the Void Horse party. Weapons ready, Eodum pointed at the gathering of magic and yelled, "There!"
Immediately, an arrow flew from a dwarf's bow, soaring at the grouping of magic. The strange gathering dodged to the side, flickering into the form of a human-shaped being in dark clothes. A small emblem was on the arms of the being, a skull made from blue, silken material. The person pulled out a pair of kama. The blades were bone white while the handles were black and red laced cloth, wrapped around a wooden base.
The person stood straight up and pointed both of their kama forward. Silence filled the room once more, and once more destroyed by a sudden noise. This time however, came not from the people, but from the cracking ground beneath them. A bright, green light emerged from the crack, and a skeletal hand shot from the ground.
